Mutant is released under the "Hollywood" Dvd collection. These DVD's were most popular when DVDs were first starting to take over videos but were still priced considerably higher. These cheaper DVDs were around half the price but it does show in the movies. With action movies, such a low budget release would be forgotten but low budget horror movies have a much better quality and are far more entertaining. Mutant was released in a 3 DVD Hollywood boxset along with "Beyond the door 2" and "The grim reaper". Although it could be argued that "The grim reaper" was a scarier film, "Mutant" is far more entertaining. The story is simple enough, 2 brothers are travelling on holiday when they crash at a small redneck town. They expect to stay just the night but they start to uncover something sinister that is causing people to become ill and mutate into toxic zombie things. The creatures themselves look just like the zombies in the original "Dawn of the dead", covered in blue face paint with blackened eyes and this makes the film all the more enjoyable. It is well filmed and they havn't made the terrible mistake of spending all their budget on one explosion or car crash. It looks like they invested a fair bit into the filming and editing as well as the actors. The acting isnt oscar worthy but that makes the movie a litle more funny. Having said that, i definately couldn't say it was bad. It keeps your attention throughout, your interested in what will happen rather than just waiting for another attack or explosion. I can't remember the soundtrack but don't think their were any songs used, just the usual "eerie" horror movie music. This is certainly a film to watch with a few friends but it is still enjoyable on your own. It's one of the best qualtiy low budget movies i have seen. There arn't any particularly gruesome moments but you do get a few cool bits where people are mutated. I would think of this as a 15 instead of an 18 because there isn't any bad language or gory bits. It's surprising to see it is a 1983 film beacause i thought it was a 90's film by the general look. To conclude, it's very enjoyable and i would reccomend it to any fan of horror movies. It is a good hour and a half of cool toxic mutant footage.
Advantages: Looks great Disadvantages: Weak ending
For a film thats listed on Wikipedia as "released in an unfinished
form" this is pretty good. Take bits of Silent Hill, Quake 4, The
Trench and other various weird and wonderful sci-fi, horror and fantasy
films and you get The Mutant Chronicles.
I personally haven't heard of the Role Playing Game this is based on
(because I'm not that much of a nerd) but fans of Silent Hill and Quake
4 will all be crying that this has mercilessly ripped off their ideas.
Which is completely wrong as the original RPG was written way back in
1993 predating Quake 4 by 12 years and Silent Hill by 6 years so it
appears the plot of this game has proved to be very influential indeed.
Thomas Jane is your heroic lead as Mitch Hunter (it's not worth talking
about his military rank because it's constantly referred to as
different ranks by different ...
Advantages: The score would work if it was attached to a better film. Disadvantages: The direction, performances, writing and effects are all disgracefully bad.
The world's natural resources have been exhausted and the planet is ruled by four competing corporations; Capitol, Bauhaus, Mishima and Imperial. Their soldiers wage war on their behalf, trying to gain new ground. But when a battle between Capitol and Bauhaus soldiers breaks an ancient stone seal, the earth has more to worry about as the planet is overrun by hideous mutants with bone blades that grow out of their arms. Veteran Capitol soldier Mitch Hunter escapes but his best friend Nathan Rooker is taken. The mutants multiply and destroy all before them. Constantine, leader of the Corporations is approached by head of the Brotherhood, Brother Samuel who thinks he can stop the mutant scourge. He is keeper of the Chronicles, a book that prophesies the rise of the mutants and talks of the 'Deliverer', who will destroy them. Samuel believes ...
The Mutant Chronicles.
It came from space???
It came to change man into mutants?..
A war followed and was just about won.
The machine was buried in the earth so it could do no more harm and there it waits??to be discovered.
The year is 2707 and four corporations rule the whole world and battle each other endlessly.
The movie begins with trench warfare and even though set in the future it clearly depicts that war never changes no matter what the time period. The fighting is Gruesome, pointless and with lots of carnage and death. Poison gas bombs, huge artillery and hand to hand combat. The fighting is fierce and then the 'Machine 'is found.
A portal opens and the mutants begin to escape, suddenly the soldiers and not fighting each other they're fighting for their lives. The mutants have only one objective to butcher anything ...
The setting is a small southern town, where illegal dumping of toxic waste is inflicted on its unsuspecting population. The results are horrifying!

DVD Description
Two brothers end up in a small town on their vacation. One of the brothers gets lost and as the other searches he discovers that toxic waste has transformed normal human beings into zombie-like mutants. A nearby chemical plant has inadvertently turned the town into a seething den of bloodthirsty humans, intent on hunting down every last "normal" human to feed upon.
