timless magic,song and dance
Advantages: good old fashion musical Disadvantages: kids hate it
Two New York Business men are on a relaxing holiday in the Glens of Scotland,
Played by Gene Kelly and Van Johnson.
While out for a spot of shooting, they become lost, tired and hungry. In an opening in the trees they see, a small village in the mist, thinking they may get directions and something to eat, they cross a small river bridge, to reach the town, with out knowing, they've crossed into a time lapse over the Bridge of the river Doon (Brigadoon).
... ...night they sleep, the following day will be a hundred years later, and if any of its original inhabitants leave the town, they will sleep that night and never wake again.
The two Americans of course know nothing of the curse or the village's history, which is a closely guarded secret by the villagers.

A Parisian Delight
Advantages: A musical, Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron Disadvantages: A frenzied Jazz scene
~~ An American In Paris ~~
Many of you that read my reviews will know I really enjoy musicals. An American In Paris may not be one of my favourites, but it is one that I really enjoy and is in my collection, which is still growing. I have over 40 now in my collection and trying to find some of the less popular one’s on DVD is becoming a small challenge to me, so if anyone gets a copy of Lili, starring Lesley Caron I would love to hear from you: ... ...the voice of Jerry Mulligan an ex GI that stayed on in Paris at the end of World War II; hoping that living in Paris would make him a better artist; we find him on the top floor, the camera moves on and takes us down the building with the voice over changing from Jerry to Adam, as we come to meet up with the talents of Pianist Adam Cook, who is another American dreaming of reaching his goals composing music. It is during this introduction that we ...

An understated MGM classic
Advantages: Great songs, great dancing, great acting Disadvantages: Oscar Levant's dancing!
The Band Wagon (1953) is a great musical of the golden era of MGM musicals produced by Arthur Freed. Everyone has head of Singin' in the Rain, but The Band Wagon is less well known, despite being of the same era, and arguably as good a film.
Directed by Vincente Minnelli, this film is up there with his other great films; Meet me in St Louis. Gigi and An American in Paris.
The Storyline
Fundamentally, this film is about putting on a show!
Fred ... ...an overpowering director who diverts the story so that he can play the dramatic lead, and the show flops. The team decide to go back to the drawing board and redo the show, they take it on tour and we are treated to some excellent musical numbers and an amazing scene called the 'Girl Hunt' where Fred and Cyd do a new style of dance together. I won't give away the ending, but it does end very well and with a great musical number.
The Performances
