Let's Go Singin' In The Rain
Advantages: Great story, feel good factor, lot's of actions, light hearted, easy to follow
Disadvantages: None that I can think of
Singin In The Rain is a fantastic comedy with memorable songs that stick in your mind long after the film has ended. Masterfully created to bring attention to the action within this film. Singin In The Rain is an interesting film that combines dance and movement with musical pieces. It is cleverly written with camera angles and other special effects that make the dancing come to life.

...unlike you see nowadays. The all round performer reflects the time that this film was written because actors were trained then in all areas of performance. For anyone who loves musical type films they will probably love this film and want to add it to their collection. Equally this makes a fantastic gift for the lover of musical films.

An absolute classic!!
Advantages: Great songs, great acting, a real 'feel good' movie
Disadvantages: Lack of additional material on the DVD

The story
An American in Paris is a film about a G.I., Gerry Mulligan (Gene Kelly) who stayed in Paris to paint after the war. Despite not being filmed on location, the film starts out with views of the famour sights of Paris, with Kelly introducing himself and his love of Paris:
"Brother if you can't paint in Paris, you might as well give up and marry the boss's daughter!"
He is struggling financially and selling his art on ...
...drink with her, he has an episode of love at first sight with another girl (played by Leslie Carron).
I don't want to give the ending away, but the film comes to a delightful conclusion after an excellent dance sequence based on famous French paintings.
The acting
Gene Kelly is his usual cheery, athletic dancing self. His co-star Oscar Levante is a great supporting actor and gives a good balance to Kelly's singing and dancing with his excellent ...

timless magic,song and dance
Advantages: good old fashion musical
Disadvantages: kids hate it
Two New York Business men are on a relaxing holiday in the Glens of Scotland,
Played by Gene Kelly and Van Johnson.
While out for a spot of shooting, they become lost, tired and hungry. In an opening in the trees they see, a small village in the mist, thinking they may get directions and something to eat, they cross a small river bridge, to reach the town, with out knowing, they've crossed into a time lapse over the Bridge of the river Doon (Brigadoon).

...night they sleep, the following day will be a hundred years later, and if any of its original inhabitants leave the town, they will sleep that night and never wake again.
The two Americans of course know nothing of the curse or the village's history, which is a closely guarded secret by the villagers.

Xanadu...but most don't
Advantages: Camp and Cheesy Fun

On my last trip to Broadway, I was lucky enough (you may think I'm strange) to get tickets to see the stage version of 'Xanadu', lovingly ripped off from the 1980's film, starring Olivia Newton John. I hadn't seen the film before, so didn't really know what to expect, except that I knew how the main 'Xanadu' tune went. Well, I absolutely loved it, it was so bad that it was fabulous! The girl playing the ONJ character was ...
...with 80s retro gusto…anyway, that's another review altogether, what was my point? Oh yes, well, having loved that, we hopped off to Virgin megastore (they're not Zavvi stateside yet, phew) and bought the DVD…and last night we watched it…but, um, it kinda sucked!

A Parisian Delight
Advantages: A musical, Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron
Disadvantages: A frenzied Jazz scene
