Amazing Concert By An Amazing Band
Review of Jamiroquai - Live In Verona DVD by mjk_money

Advantages: Amazing Concert
Disadvantages: Not Very Many Special Features

Having liked Jamiroquai for a few years now, but never being able to go to one of their concerts, I was keen to buy this DVD. First of all, the location of the concert is great. It is in a large Roman outdoor stadium/ampitheatre which is unusual, but works well with the songs. Also, through the whole concert it is pooring down with rain (really hard, a lot of other bands would have cancelled in this sort of weather), but Jay Kay still continues. ...
...- as it kicks up when he dances. The songs performed give a wide variety of Jamrioquai's music. The songs include: Corner of the Earth Virtual Insanity Twenty Zero One (my favourite) Deeper Underground Cosmic Girl Canned Heat Bad Girls Love Foolosophy And a few more. The songs are especially good, as a lot of them last longer than the album versions (Corner of the Earth lasts about 10 mins). With a lot of musical solos and JK dancing ... Read review

A Great Sonic and Emotional Experience
Review of U2 - Elevation 2001 - Live In Boston DVD by fmml

Advantages: Great concert; great music.
Disadvantages: Slightly gimmicky extra features.

This is a great concert - Elevation was one of U2's most emotional, visceral tours, where the songs were out in the open, not hidden by any artifice or stage personas, and this DVD reflects something of that. The setlist is nicely structured, leading up to the emotional and sonic climax of the Bad-Streets transition. (Although what's with pronouncing it 'Shtreets', Bono?) Other gems include the relatively rare performance of In a Little While, dedicated ...
...Having the second DVD with alternative angles and so on is a bit gimmicky, to be honest. The biggest downside is that you can't go fullscreen with these angles - you have to watch it all within the interface they give you, which spoils the experience somewhat. It's quite cool to be able to hear the director's instructions to his cameramen and discover that the filming of In a Little While is a bit weird for a reason, though! All in all, a great ... WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME
Review of U2 - Rattle And Hum DVD by little_red_hen

Advantages: U2 in all their glory, raw and gritty!
Disadvantages: Interviews are not particularly helpful

...not actually a fan of U2 until I saw this documentary film on TV. I quite liked a few of their previous songs, after seeing U2 perform on 'THE TUBE', a music programme in the early 80s. Being married at the time to a U2 fan, meant that U2 was blasted out most days, and I finally got the message! From here I worked forward enjoying follow up releases, such as 'Achtung Baby' and 'Zooropa' and working back via 'The Joshua Tree' to the 'Unforgettable ...
...join a band. U2 started to have success in the 1980s, and they haven't looked back since. Since the release of their album The Joshua Tree they have often been referred to as the biggest rock band in the world by both fans and critics. Their music is mostly self penned, with lyrics usually by Bono. U2 are almost as well known for their humanitarian work as they are for their music. Bono is perhaps the best-known advocate for finding a cure for AIDS ... Read review

Depeche Mode Excite Paris
Review of Depeche Mode - One Night In Paris - Exciter Tour 2001 (Wide Screen) by GabyMolly

Advantages: Brings back exciting memories of an excellent tour
Disadvantages: Not the same as actually being there

...of "Never Let Me Down" Depeche Mode are on top form in this concert, taken from their 2001 Exciter tour. I saw the band on this tour in London and this DVD brings back all the atmosphere but with better views. Dave Gahan struts around the stage like a latter-day Mick Jagger, whirling and posturing, whipping the crowd into an electro-frenzy. The set list is taken mostly from the Exciter album but also includes such rarely heard tracks as "Halo", "Waiting ...
...2001, this DVD proves that Depeche Mode are back on top form. They have survived the electro-synth-pop tag of the 1980s and evolved into the most exciting live rock band of the 21st Century (as they are currently proving on their Touring the Angel world tour). The second DVD includes interviews with the band and long-time collaborator Anton Corbijn, who directed a lot of the band's videos from the late 1980s and early 1990s, plus bonus track "Sisters ... Love Nirvana? Need this DVD.
Review of Nirvana - Live! Tonight! Sold Out! DVD by welfare92

Advantages: Fun, the real Nirvana, interview with the lovely Kurt Cobain
Disadvantages: It could be 12 hours long and it would be too short

This is a really fun DVD it has a mixture of live performances mixed with interviews with the band. It also has a selection of very funny moments; when they appeared on TOTP and Playing Territorial P***ings on Jonathan Ross. A specil treat for anyone who saw them at Reading 92 then there is footage from this gig ahh fond memories. You see a few sides of Kurt Cobain the funny man, the recluse and the sex god. I have watched this DVD over 10 times ... Read review
