WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME Advantages: U2 in all their glory, raw and gritty! Disadvantages: Interviews are not particularly helpful ...not actually a fan of U2 until I saw this documentary film on TV. I quite liked a few of their previous songs, after seeing U2 perform on 'THE TUBE', a music programme in the early 80s. Being married at the time to a U2 fan, meant that U2 was blasted out most days, and I finally got the message! From here I worked forward enjoying follow up releases, such as 'Achtung Baby' and 'Zooropa' and working back via 'The Joshua Tree' to the 'Unforgettable ... ...join a band. U2 started to have success in the 1980s, and they haven't looked back since. Since the release of their album The Joshua Tree they have often been referred to as the biggest rock band in the world by both fans and critics. Their music is mostly self penned, with lyrics usually by Bono. U2 are almost as well known for their humanitarian work as they are for their music. A multicoloured film! Advantages: great music and story Disadvantages: none ...ipoints for the DVD of Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat as it is a show that I have seen and loved a couple of times at the theatre and felt sure that my daughters would love it too - which they do! This DVD is really a must for anyone who is a fan of musicals especially those of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. I wasn't sure from the photos on the cover whether this was going to be showing an actual stage version but it's not. In fact ... ...few pieces of scenery. Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat takes us back to biblical times and tells the story of Joseph and his eleven shepherding brothers. Funny Barbara! Advantages: Barbara's amazing voice, very funny! Disadvantages: The sequel not quite as good as the original ...the 1968 Oscar Winning musical Funny Girl. This first film follows Jewish girl Fanny Brice as she strives to become a star. Audiences come to love Fanny as she amazes them with her comic antics and her powerful singing voice. As she becomes a major success in her career, her personal life as it's ups and downs. Fanny falls in love with gambler Nick Arnstein (Omar Sharif). He romances her and they eventually marry, however this film doesn't have a ... ...voice!! The sequel to Funny Girl is the 1975 film 'Funny Lady' (very original title!). The sequel focusses on Fanny's life after Nick Arnstein. Fanny meets Billy Rose (played by James Caan), who is a song writer and Broadway producer. The pair work together and also become lovers. Moulin rouge is a musical admirers dream Advantages: Great chemistry between main characters ,feel good film . Disadvantages: The singing throughout the film can get a bit tiresome In my opinion you must see the film if you like musicals, otherwise you might find the singing a bit off putting .At times the siniging can seem a bit over the top but in general this is what makes the film interesting.It is worth watching just to see the on screen chemistry between Ewan Mcgregor and Nicole Kidman they are a great pairing and seem to have good on screen presence allowing you to follow the romantic tale which is played out .
