Advantages: 13 of the best sketches around Disadvantages: No extras
...first became aware of the Acorn Antiques sketches on Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Comedy Sketches, it rated highly on it, and the couple of minutes of footage that was shown made me laugh so hard, I instantly became a fan!
I started to hunt for any DVD’s that would include these hilarious sketches, I was aware that they came from the TV show “Victoria Wood As Seen On TV” but I couldn’t find a DVD of it. Then a few months later I found that they were ... ...included all 13 editions of Acorn Antiques (running about 5 minutes each, apart from the 12th which runs for about 10 minutes, as it is a mock behind the scenes look at how the fictional soup is made) including the continuity announcements that were on before each sketches, read by the wonderful Susie Blake. Advantages: Great performances, great fun, the songs (If you like Abba) Disadvantages: Younger cast are a bit flat
...Christmas, my mum asked for Mamma Mia! on DVD because my dad wouldn't let her rent it. Come Christmas day and after eating copiously and drinking similarly we sat down (dad excluded) to watch (mercifully not the sing-a-long version). I was apprehensive. I'm not good with musicals and I'm definitely not good with Abba. Begrudgingly I joined in willing my loathing along. From minute one I thought, 'this is horrid', but by the end I was toe tapping ... ...on what makes this film so enjoyable but somehow it is, and somehow I'll try. So, the story. Review of Mamma Mia!
Advantages: Great chemistry between main characters ,feel good film . Disadvantages: The singing throughout the film can get a bit tiresome
In my opinion you must see the film if you like musicals, otherwise you might find the singing a bit off putting .At times the siniging can seem a bit over the top but in general this is what makes the film interesting. It is worth watching just to see the on screen chemistry between Ewan Mcgregor and Nicole Kidman they are a great pairing and seem to have good on screen presence allowing you to follow the romantic tale which is played out .

...remember loving the musical film Oliver! as a child and singing and dancing along to so many of the wonderful songs that accompanied the story. I was also lucky to see the West End production many years ago, long before Andrew Lloyd Webber took an interest with his search for a Nancy and an Oliver in the great series ‘I’d do Anything’. My daughters loved watching the TV shows and started picking up the words to some of the songs. Therefore when I ... ...in our big armchair watching Oliver! Oliver! (made in 1968)is based on the classic novel of Oliver Twist that was written by Charles Dickens. It tells the story of a poor workhouse boy who had the audacity to ask for more of the disgusting gruel that was served to all the boys daily while the workhouse governors were fed roast dinners. As a consequence Oliver is sold to the local undertaker where he is teased about his dead mother. Feeling desperate, ...
