Faith & Devotion. Advantages: IMO Depeche Mode's best live DVD to date: a fantastic performance & wonderfully reworked songs. Disadvantages: Can't really think of any! ...both Frankfurt and Barcelona during Depeche Mode's sold out 1993 Devotional tour, by renowned music video director and photographer Anton Corbijn (as you may or may not know, Depeche Mode's longtime visual collaborator). The two-tier stage (also designed by Corbijn) is panelled with projection screens displaying different images and videos throughout the entire concert that enhance each performance. Another notable thing about the stage set up is ... ...was a terrible time for Depeche Mode and band relations were at their worst, you wouldn't know it from this performance! Dave Gahan has what seems to be a limitless amount of energy. Martin Gore performas lead vocals on one song (well, two if you count Death's Door, played over the credits) giving a fantastic performance of Judas, and plays a lot more guitar than he had done previously (he has a great guitar solo on Enjoy The Silence!). Michael's Dangerous side Advantages: Some great videos and clips of Michael. Disadvantages: Some bits are boring as it is a little too long. ...think) somewhere. He then sees Michael performing the song with aload of natives- what a sight! It's an inventive video that I thoroughly enjoy watching. 2. Superbowl Heal The World- Michael singing in front of a live audience of mainly kids holding up pieces of paper so it looks like the audience are children all holding hands together (hard to explain!). It's a bit emotional and sentimental and the song is a bit mushy, but it's ok. 3. Remember ... ...the Pharaoh's wife. Then enters Michael dressed in a black hooded robe, he then does some magic and transforms into the Michael we all know and love. He then sings "do you remember the time, when we fell in love, do you remember the time, when we first met girl" to the pharaoh's wife which upsets the pharaoh who orders his men on to Michael, but of course he doesn't manage to catch him. Love Nirvana? Need this DVD. Advantages: Fun, the real Nirvana, interview with the lovely Kurt Cobain Disadvantages: It could be 12 hours long and it would be too short This is a really fun DVD it has a mixture of live performances mixed with interviews with the band. It also has a selection of very funny moments; when they appeared on TOTP and Playing Territorial P***ings on Jonathan Ross. A specil treat for anyone who saw them at Reading 92 then there is footage from this gig ahh fond memories. You see a few sides of Kurt Cobain the funny man, the recluse and the sex god. No-Man in concert an experience not to be missed! Advantages: A great live DVD for lovers of crafted, beautiful music. Disadvantages: Not long enough! No-Man are (currently) Tim Bowness and Steven Wilson, a UK duo who have an occasional recording partnership that spans over 20 years. I only came to listen to them fairly recently, about three years ago I think, when a friend gave me a couple of their CDs to listen to as I had at that time become a fan of one of Steven Wilson's other projects, Porcupine Tree. Since then they have been elevated to be one of my favourite bands ever, for their creativity, ... ...with one of my favourite no-man songs, "Only Rain", from the 2001 album Returning Jesus. Classical violinist Steve Bingham layers loops of violin harmonising with each other, perfectly complementing Tim Bowness' sung verses. Nine, Nein! Advantages: Excellent cast, wonderful acting, amazing scenes, musical numbers Disadvantages: Boring, really really boring. ...What's it about? Nine is about a self-centred Italian film director, Guido Contini, who is having trouble finding inspiration for his new movie 'Italia'. He looks to the many women in his life for ideas on what to base his latest film on. He is in the midst of a mid-life crisis and can't seem to find a balance between his personal life and his working life with his ego getting in the way. We meet the women in his life; his mother, his muse, ... ...an influence on his life. Cast This is one of the reasons I went to see the movie, it's such a star studded cast: Guido Contini - Daniel Day-Lewis: This was the director that the plot revolved around, he was a moody, funny, arrogant character who I quite liked. I thought Daniel Day-Lewis was amazing in this role, although the Italian accent was a little dodgy.
