Advantages: Pavarotti is a wonderful singer Disadvantages: but he is not a great actor.
...as The Anvil Chorus etc.
Il Trovatore (The Troubador) is a very good, if slightly complex story, about a baby stolen at birth and unknowingly finding himself the arch enemy of this own brother over a girl. The woman calling herself his mother, in fact a gypsy who stole him suceeds in making life for The Troubador more difficult, as he is torn between his love for her and for the woman he longs for.
I have seen this with slightly different endings, ... ...to this is the great Pav himself. Now I AM a fan. His voice is truly something magical and I never tire of listening to him. However he is not this best actor in the world, and this opera was filmed when that wasn't as important as it is today, and I did find him somewhat wooden. As well as a little large for the role. But if you are used to opera, you find thats not uncommon!

Advantages: A wonderfully funny and colourful Disadvantages: None
Cry Baby is a film directed by John Waters who is one of the few independent film makers with a reputation of what his nickname suggested, 'The Pope of Trash'. A Baltimore man who had a passion for gore and for all things bad taste. The scene where he literally, but unapologetically ... ...exits. It was probably one of the sickest films to be made for the time but it did nothing to tarnish his reputation or Millstead's for that matter. Afterwards he carried on making low budget movies and eventually became noticed with Hairspray in 1988. By then his work was a little more polished but still had a great sense of humour and playfullness. Then came along Cry Baby- a 90's rock and roll musical, a slick version of West Side Story. A Fifties ...

...remember loving the musical film Oliver! as a child and singing and dancing along to so many of the wonderful songs that accompanied the story. I was also lucky to see the West End production many years ago, long before Andrew Lloyd Webber took an interest with his search for a Nancy and an Oliver in the great series ‘I’d do Anything’. My daughters loved watching the TV shows and started picking up the words to some of the songs. Therefore when I ... ...in our big armchair watching Oliver! Oliver! (made in 1968)is based on the classic novel of Oliver Twist that was written by Charles Dickens. It tells the story of a poor workhouse boy who had the audacity to ask for more of the disgusting gruel that was served to all the boys daily while the workhouse governors were fed roast dinners. As a consequence Oliver is sold to the local undertaker where he is teased about his dead mother. Feeling desperate, ...
