The Godfather Sings! Advantages: Great story and acting, catchy songs with good vocals, family film Disadvantages: None from me Well my film education continues. I think hubby nearly passed out in the shop when I said I had never seen this film and knew nothing about it apart from it being a West end Show! As a result he treated me to it and I have to say considering I did not know what to expect from it I did actually find it very good. The film is set in the 1950’s with Nathan Detroit being a gambling man who is desperately trying to find a venue to host his massive Craps ... ...Gambler comes to town by the name of Sky Masterson who Nathan thinks will be able to help him with his venue problem. Nathan sets Sky up for a $1000 bet that he cannot convince Missionary worker Sarah Brown to go away with him. When you see a guy reach for stars in the sky... Advantages: Excellent cast, catchy songs, entertaining storyline Disadvantages: No special features on the DVD Guys And Dolls is without a doubt one of my favourite musicals ever made! The film was released back in 1955, directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, and it’s certainly stood the test of time. The general plot is fairly simple; gambler Nathan Detroit who runs the 'oldest established permanent floating crap game in New York' needs $1000 to bribe Joey Biltmore in order to obtain a location to run the floating crap game. In order to obtain the money, Nathan ... ...Nicely Johnson and Big Jule, Guys And Dolls is a classic. The film also has an all-star cast with Frank Sinatra starring as gambler Nathan Detroit, Marlon Brando playing Sky Masterson, Vivian Blaine playing the talented Miss Adelaide and Jean Simmons playing Sargeant Sarah Brown. Doris Day heaven! Advantages: Six Doris Day movies - what more can i say?! Disadvantages: It doesn't include Calamity Jane ...is purely for fans of Doris Day! It contains six of Doris' best films: Young At Heart (1955)- musical with Frank Sinatra. A dramatic musical - fantastic songs and performances by Doris & Frank! Lover Come Back (1961)- some of Doris Day's best films are those in which she starred with the gorgeous Rock Hudson. Doris and Rock play business rivals who can't help falling for each other. The Thrill of it all (1963) - Romatic and funny musical starring ... ...me no Flowers (1964) - Doris plays Judy Kimbal, wife of George (Rock Hudson). "She's so swishy in her satin and tat" Advantages: Fascinating insight into Bowie's work Disadvantages: Probably not for newcomers to Bowie ...has consistently impressed me is David Bowie. Called a 'chameleon' for many because of the various characters that he has portrayed, his range of music is impressive. My favourite Bowie era is the early seventies, and thankfully, this is exactly the period that this double DVD and book set cover. Called a 'critical review', a number of people connected to Bowie and the music world are interviewed during the course of the DVDs. Two of those interviewed ... ...any kind of interview with David Bowie himself, except for the odd flash of an early seventies interview that he gave. I was initially quite disappointed to not have his input; however, in hindsight, this is supposed to be a 'critical review', so it makes sense not to have an interview with Bowie himself. Fantastic film anyone would have to enjoy it!! Advantages: Everything, sheer masterpiece! Disadvantages: Non apart from the fact it made me cry! In my opinion this film is fantastic. It is a classic tearjerker with lots of fun and exciting elements to it. I feel this film can appeal to absolutley anyone as the story is fantastic and the actors are vibrant and gorgeous (for both the men and the women!). All in all from my point of view this film is worth purchasing it will definatley take your breath away! The songs featured in the film in my opinion are absolutley fabulous, ranging from ...
