Review of The Old Grey Whistle Test - Vols. 1 To 3 DVD by
smudgeybabes
Advantages: Cool, mellow, nice!
Disadvantages: None.
. .
Title refers to the theme tune of the Old Grey Whistle Test of course! Presenter Bob Harris (AKA "Whispering Bob Harris", because of his quiet voice and "laid back" style). did a brilliant job of presenting a programme a lot of you won't have heard of. You may have seen mickey takes of it on shows like "The fast show" doing a parady called The Jazz Show (cool) and even Monty Python's Flying Circus did a sketch of it, The show brought onto the ... ...special effects to improve anything. The stage props were either curtains, or more often just the backs of the walls from other sets.
Released by BBC Video, in conjunction with Warner Home Video, there are three DVDs in the series. They are available individually or as a set. Packaging is the same as all DVDs. You will see interviews with former performers, as well as getting comments from the old presenters.
The show first went on the air in the ...

Truly amazing performances by Elvis at his peak
Review of Elvis Presley - '68 Comeback Special (Deluxe Edition) by
rox1
Advantages: Incredible, passionate performances,a revelation
Disadvantages: too many out-takes, fluffs etc
...Elvis? Do you think young Elvis when he first became famous, recorded records like Heartbreak Hotel, Blue Suede Shoes and Hound Dog and appeared on american tv shows such as the Ed Sullivan Show? Maybe you think of the rather wooden actor Elvis who starred in countless, often very mediocre movies? Or maybe you think of the older, increasingly overweight Elvis performing in Vegas wearing rhinestone studded white jumpsuits?
To my mind none of these ... ...Here is Elvis no longer a boy but a man: healthy, happy, handsome, and with amazing vocal power. In these discs he gives renditions of all his best known classics, but he performs them with such passion, energy, sex appeal and charisma that if you have only ever heard the original recordings before you will be stunned. These must rank as some of the most charismatic, inspiring performances made by any performer in any genre of music or entertainment. ...

I wish I was at this Concert - It's mindblowing
Review of Fleetwood Mac - PBS Special - Live In Boston (+CD) by
euphena
Advantages: Seeing The Mac at their best
Disadvantages: None
...what a talent !!, Mick Fleetwood described this man as his 'secret weapon' for the concert and he was right - this man can play his socks off.
The surprising solo of Mick Fleetwood was a little weird. I felt that Mick wanted a spot to host his talent as a supreme drummer, but If Mick had a chance to show off, I would have loved to see John McVie do a solo as well. John McVie is a supremly gifted bass play, they is not many who can touch him in his ... ...when towards end Mick Fleetwood introduced the band members to the audience- she received a roaring applause from the audience, more than Lindsey. Lesson learn't - Do not underestimate or mess with Ms Nicks
I loved the whole DVD and if Fleetwwod Mac were to tour again. I will climb hell and high water to get tickets, they know how to work the crowd,I want to be there as they are keeping it real.

Still Waters , Run Cheap......except on DVD
Review of Roger Waters - The Wall - Live In Berlin DVD by
n13roy
Advantages: Seems to Capture the moment in time.....
Disadvantages: Nothing like the real show....
...Saturday 21 July 1990 .....by Roger Waters....and Special Guests...
This show had never been performed live since Pink Floyd played it for the last time at Earls Court in June 1981, soon after this a massive legal wrangle started to emerge between David Gilmour and Roger Waters, which would leave the band in turmoil for many years to come......
In all fairness, it was a very brave move by Roger Waters to even try and stage this show, as the logistics ... ...get a new song from Roger Waters to finish off the show called....The Tide is Turning....and thats it...... Overall, a pretty poor concert, looks much better on DVD than it did on the day I was there.....
All in all......just another prick at the Wall.......in Berlin..
DVD Extras...
This is quite an old one, so there is very little on here, just a few snippets of the " Making Of "...and a short documentary called " Behind the Wall " which does ...

Nick Cave live in 3 different ways
Review of Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - The Abbatoir Blues Tour (+Two CD)(Box Set) by
yd71
Advantages: Over 5 hours of great music
Disadvantages: Nice looking but impractical packaging
...a very wise decision.
Nick Cave has been around for a long time. Like most of the people I like musically, he's attempting to make me feel old by getting dangerously close to his 50th Birthday. The Bad Seeds have been around for slightly less time, but have still managed over 20 years and 13 albums. Not necessarily the easiest music to get into, especially not the earlier stuff, but worth sticking with. Some people hate it, but I love the fact that ... ...DVD"? There's plenty going on. Nick Cave switches between stalking about the stage, constantly smoking and doing rubbish dancing before sitting down at a piano. Half the time smoking while doing that. (Another reason it's not suitable for children, I guess. Too much smoking. He even sits down at the piano at the start of one song, smoking, and then lights another half way through the song). He's also joined by a bassist, 2 drummer/percusionists, ...
