A Great Sonic and Emotional Experience
Review of U2 - Elevation 2001 - Live In Boston DVD by fmml

Advantages: Great concert; great music.
Disadvantages: Slightly gimmicky extra features.

This is a great concert - Elevation was one of U2's most emotional, visceral tours, where the songs were out in the open, not hidden by any artifice or stage personas, and this DVD reflects something of that. The setlist is nicely structured, leading up to the emotional and sonic climax of the Bad-Streets transition. (Although what's with pronouncing it 'Shtreets', Bono?) Other gems include the relatively rare performance of In a Little While, dedicated ...
...Having the second DVD with alternative angles and so on is a bit gimmicky, to be honest. The biggest downside is that you can't go fullscreen with these angles - you have to watch it all within the interface they give you, which spoils the experience somewhat. It's quite cool to be able to hear the director's instructions to his cameramen and discover that the filming of In a Little While is a bit weird for a reason, though! All in all, a great ... Live 8 - Changing the World
Review of Live 8 (Various Artists) (Digipack And Booklet) by leebo87

Advantages: A day of History on DVD. Loads of really good artists live.
Disadvantages: No commentary and some of the extra's are a bit weak.

...names in music today performing live for your viewing pleasure. Its a bit like a compilation CD, but only you can see the artists performing live and the atmosphere from the crowds watching is electric and pulses through you as you watch. Its hard to explain in words how this show makes you feel. If you were there then you can reminisce of memories of the show you reember and the feeling you had when you were there. If (like me) you weren't there ...
...you can watch it all live now and still say that you were part of something big and helping the world. Back to the DVD. Its crammed full of performances on each disk. All in great quality (audio and visual) and are produced and captured very well. You turn off the lights, pull the curtains across, whack on the surround sound and you will feel like you are there in the crowd. The atmosphere is captured very well. The extras on the dvd are imho a ... Read review

U2 Go Home
Review of U2 - Go Home: Live From Slane Castle (Super Jewel Case) by tmlfc1

Advantages: All The Best Of U2
Disadvantages: None

...had the pleasure of seeing u2 in concert three times now.I have been an avid fan of their music for roughly 15 years and watched as the band grew into what i consider the finest rock group of the last two decades. Its easy to sum u2 up with words like.brilliant, genius, entertaining and so on.I believe that you dont have to be a follower to appreciate the band and what they have achieved. They are probably the only band i know that can change their style ...
...expectant and rowdy 88,000 fans u2 returned to this venue twenty years on from when they first played there. This dvd concert captures u2 at their very best and a 2 hour and 12 minute running time is in my opinion not long enough. The opening is as spectacular as you would hope for and when the lights come up and they break into the song ELEVATION it still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Sporting his infamous wrap round dark glasses ... Read review

U2: Go Home
Review of U2 - Go Home: Live From Slane Castle DVD by bus4awb

Advantages: Amazing footage of the world's biggest band
Disadvantages: Bono droning on occasionally!

This DVD sees U2 returning to their native Irish roots, playing a massive sold out gig in the beautiful setting of Slane Castle. The moment the camera cuts to the band approaching the stage sends a shiver down your spine - you know that this will be a memorable occasion. The minute they walk onto the stage the crowd go beserk. The band rip into hit single 'Elevation'. This is an amazing opening to a gig, a feat that U2 pull off with remarkable ...
...particularly poignant in the Irish setting. It sounds incredible and the fans sing every word. All in all, this is a must have for any U2 fan. The setting is amazing. This performance sees the band on top form. All the hits are performed sublimely. Fantastic value for money. ... Read review

Mamma Mia! but who's the pappa?
Review of Mamma Mia! DVD by kingfisher111

Advantages: fantastic feel good film
Disadvantages: none

Just a note before I start to say that this is a film only review due to the fact that as far as I know the DVD has not yet been released! I had a fabulous evening out at the cinema yesterday watching what must be the ultimate feel good film of the year! I had heard a lot about it and I was not disappointed - in fact I don't think I have smiled and laughed so much at a film for a long time! If you have not seen it it is well worth going to see! ...
...- the music of Abba (definitely a blast from my past!), a fun story line, an excellent line up (including the gorgeous Colin Firth and the fabulous Julie Walters) and all this against the beautiful backdrop of a Greek island! What more could I ask for! So what's it all about then? Well first of we meet young Sophie Sheridan who is soon to be married. She lives on a beautiful Greek island with her mum, Donna, but she has never known her dad. After ... Read review
