Music and Lyrics is a romantic comedy released in 2007 starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore as the two main characters Alex Fletcher and Sophie Fisher.
I have (like with most films I write about!!!) wanted to watch this film since it was out in the cinema, the trailers made it seem like a great rom-com and a wonderful feel good movie. So when it came on Sky Movies this week, I thought I'd give it a go.
I had been told by a friend of mine that it wasn't that good, so my expectations weren't too high, but I like to make my own mind up about a film and I'm glad I did watch it.
PLOT: Alex Fletcher is a washed up has-been from the 80s, he had been in a band, PoP, in the 80s and is still around, even though his last album was a flop selling only 5000 copies, his manager is still trying to get him jobs. And when he hears Cora, the new popette sensation "bigger than Britney and Christina", wants to see him, he thinks that it could be a good idea.
When Sophie Fisher turns up at Alex's house one morning to water his plants, he at first thinks she's a wacko and doesn't really pay much attention to her. That is until he's given a week to write a whole new song for a duet with Cora. He knows its going to be the biggest break he'll get ever again, and knows it will boost his career, but he's never been the writer and has no inspiration. So when Sophie butts into Alex and his managers song writing session, they all realise she has a knack for song writing, and he ropes her in to help him.
Together Alex and Sophie write a great song which Cora adores, and their own relationship blossoms and their friendship becomes closer and closer. But when Cora changes the music to the lyrics, and jazzes it up to the extent the romance of the song is ruined. But when Sophie goes to tell her to change it back, Alex thinks his career could be compromised and tries to desuade her causing friction between the two and an argument which causes Sophie to leave.
As usual I won't give away the ending and theres not really anything else I can say without giving it away! The storyline goes in a basic boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back series as with most romantic comedies.
This film doesn't differ much from all the other rom-coms I have seen, Hugh Grant plays a good part of the has been pop star, and Drew Barrymore always plays the good part of the shy girl next door.
If you like romantic comedies you'll like this, its not something I'd rave about and probably not even something I would watch again, but it is a good watch, unlike a good rom-com theres no tears which is something I love in a rom-com!!!! But its not a bad film, and it will give you a giggle!
Recommended for a girly night in with a bottle of wine and a box of choccies!!!!

Advantages: it'll keep you entertained for a couple of hours. Disadvantages: it's a chick click, but it's either an advantage or a disadvantage on how you look at it.
