A DVD of the old school Muppets puppets from Jim Henson. For those who are not quite sure what a 'muppet' is you'll be sure to recognise them immediately from their 'odd' appearance and although most of them are modeled on real creatures, for example Kermit is a frog, and miss piggy is a pig, they don't look much like real animals at all. The loud colours of thier fur/ skin/ scales, combined with an upright posture and bulging popping out eyes can actually scare children despite simply being puppets made of foam. The ones you are most likely to have heard of are: Kermit the Frog (he's the whimpish one who always gets hit by the stroppy pig), Miss Piggy (that stroppy pig), Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Big Bird (aka seasame street icon), Bert and Ernie, Elmo, and Oscar the Grouch. Although you don't get to see a huge variety in characters in this DVD as it's of 'muppet magic' which is one of the first productions made by Henson and his crew, but in later ones you start to get more of a feel for them as the muppet family grows and you get miss piggy, animal, gonzo and even on to the fraggle rock gang.

Running for a total of 62 minutes this DVD is one of the originals that have just been brought out on new DVD format for all us Muppet lovers to purchase in order to replace those bulky and unsightly VHS versions. Although the graphics have been improved slightly the music hasn't but I suppose this is due to the original being quite low tech. However I still love it and am glad I bought the DVD version as it's got extra features that my old video didn't have. These features of course include the basic scene selection option as most do which makes viewing quicker (than having to fast forward past all the film trailers and silly adverts of videos you never knew existed), a short film entitled 'Monster Family', and a musical sketch called 'The Muppet String Quartet'.
Overall a 5 star rating, yes I'm bias, I adore the muppets - despite detesting kermit (he really is just too weedy & pathetic for my liking), who shows up quite alot and is present in almost every sketch. It's still a great viewing and takes you back to the days before they brought in the novel creatures of Gonzo, Rizo the rat and the crazy shrimp pepe. Highly recommended to any muppets fan, and would be a superb surprise christmas gift. Good also both for children and adult viewing. Thanks for reading yet another of my DVD reviews, take care & best wishes as always Mintz x
