I've been looking forward to seeing the sequel to The Mummy ever since a friend showed me the trailer on the Apple website. It seemed to have the same formula as the first film; great action, characters and special effects.
I finally got the opportunity to go and see it and after watching it in an empty cinema one friday afternoon I almost wished I hadn't bothered.
The explanation of how the Mummy got ressurected and how Rachel Weisz's character had suddenly changed from being the Pharaoh's wife to his daughter left me scratching my head.
The story line was very thin, with all the characters being pretty two dimensional and a jet powered dirigible being a bit out of place in a 1930's setting. Some of the effects were pulled sirectly from the first film - the wall of sand with the Mummy's face in it, only this time water - the scarabs etc.
Ok, it wasn't all bad. You can't deny that the effects are state of the art and as an action film it's definitely got it's quota, but overall I was dissapointed. I won't be waiting to add this to my Video collection

Production Year: 2000 - Horror - Director: Keenen Ivory Wayans - Original Language: English - Classification: 18 years and over - Starring: Carmen Electra, Anna Faris, Kurt Fuller, James Van Der Beek, Keenen Ivory Wayans
Advantages: brilliant acting, great special effects, tonnes of special features, cheap Disadvantages: feels as if special effects are prioty over acting, storyline wasn't as good
