This film is set in the past and is about a young girl who goes and fights in the Chinese army against the invading Huns because she believes her father to be too old. She has to disguise herself as a boy as girls were not allowed in the army. When she joins there are many problems she has to deal with because she is a girl for example having a wash! However in the end she manages to save the army but the rest of the army discovers she is a girl. Because girls were unable to fight she is sent home disgraced but the adventure is only beginning as she finds out the enemy's plan to kidnap the emperor. I thought this film was really good in several ways. Firstly this film highlights the love a daughter can feel for her father and it really touched me how a daughter loved her father so much that she went to fight the war for him. This film also made me very sad as I felt how the mother and father must have felt after thinking they had lost their daughter. The troubles the girl goes through being a girl are very funny and made me laugh a lot. For example she has to speak deeply and often forgets. She has two companions along the way, a dragon and a bug. The bug is so sweet and made me laugh, however the dragon was the funniest as he had great responsibility but was useless. This film not only makes you laugh but also gives you the heartbreak of how parents feel when they think they lose their child. I don't think this film is suitable for teenager or for very young children. However I still watch it when I am in the mood and I am 15 so it depends on the individual. I do recommend this film because I thought it was very funny but at the same time I learnt some (although a little) history which I think is always helpful. The voice of Eddie Murphy brings laughter to most people's eyes and the beautiful songs sung by Christina Aguilera make it a typical Disney film but just a bit better!

I see you've posted this as a DVD review, but you've not mentioned the DVD. Are there any extras? If so, what are they and are they any good? If you add to this, or if you change it to be posted as a "Film Only" review, which can be done by accessing "edit review" in the top right of the review and changing the drop down menu under the "Which format are you reviewing?" question at the bottom, please let me know and I'll re-rate.
