This beautiful story is the myth of the strong-minded Mulan, stuck in a time and culture where women are thought to "stick to their duties". Mulan is the flower of this wonderful tale as we, the audience, watch a girl who is sure of her mind blossom and striveing to achieve honour for her family with amazing consequences...
It is refreshing for Disney to have a female character play such a spirited role, even though it may go against the somewhat typical format of earlier Disney cartoons it works surprisingly well. Having said that, there are some things that haven't changed:
1) the plot does lead towards a romantic story line - which may leave some viewers wanting more or other viewers may just let there imagination take over!
2) The "fairy-tale happy ending"??- not quite fairy tale, but well you will have to see…
3) The Songs- there are a few, beautifully sung and almost have that age old Walt Disney guarantee that you're bound to be humming them the next day!!
4) With lines like "CHICKEN BOY!?! Say that to my face, ya limp noodle!!!"- Mushu (voice of Eddie Murphy) Well, you can't go wrong!!!!!!!!!
This is Disney’s 36th animated work of genius, the film stresses a time where honour and reputation are very important amongst the people of China, in an attempt to uphold the Fa-Zhou name Mulan goes to War to protect her already injured father from the dangers of battle. Women are not aloud in the army, so she poses as a man with amusing consequences.
There is also an array of funny secondary characters such as the amusing cricket that is supposedly lucky and although only speaks in undersized squeaks he is rather entertaining especially as Mushu’s side-kick! Look out for Mulan’s grandmother as well, who delivers brilliant witty lines perfectly.
China is in need of being saved from the Huns who are to invade China, and "sometimes a single grain of rice may be the deciding balance in tipping the scales”, these are the profound words of a great Emperor, showing that each person can provide some kind of assistance in order to tip "the scales” into China’s favour…
ENJOY THE FILM.

I never actually saw all of this since I turned it off when I saw that Disney had taken a classic story and turning it into a romantic comedy - and that dragon? OY VEY.

To my mind Eddie Murphy's third best film

I like your writing style, just needs a bit more to 'bulk' it up to get the highest rating (look at other reviews for ideas of what people are looking for.) Eddie Murphy is just great as a voice, though Donkey in Shrek is his best one! Emma x
