The Story *********** Mulan thinks she will never please her father, after a visit to the matchmaker that goes terribly wrong. Mulan fears that she will never become a suitable bride and uphold the family honour. The terrible news hits China that evil Shan-Yu and the Huns have invaded the northern border and Mulan’s father is called upon to protect his country and family. Mulan thinks that her father might be killed so she cuts off her hair, steals her father’s armour and runs away, pretending to be a boy and taking her father’s place in the Imperial Army.
The spirits of her ancestors are not happy about this and want to send the ‘Great Stone Dragon’ to rescue her. Unfortunately for Mushu (the gong ringer) he breaks the statue and decides to take its place guarding Mulan. He thinks that if he can make Mulan a war hero then the ancestors will let him be a guardian again.
‘ It’ll take a miracle to get me in to the army.’ Mushu helps Mulan to get in to the army and gets her told off by Captain Shang. She gets into a fight with her fellow recruits and spills a cauldron of rice on to the ground. I know what your thinking how unlucky can you get? But Mulan works hard and becomes a good soldier.
Mulan is trained with a very comical group of warriors called Yao, Ling and Chien-po; leading them is the handsome General’s son Shang. After they have completed their training they unexpectedly get called to the front line, then taking a long walk to the mountains, they have a nasty shock instore for them…They arrive and find that everyone has been killed by the Huns including captain Shang’s father, he is devastated.
Mushu gives away their position and Shang is nearly shot. When the Huns start to attack Mulan has an idea. As she carries out her idea she saves Shang’s life and gets injured, she has no choice. Shang goes to see her and it is revealed that she is a woman. Shang has no choice, the penalty is DEATH.
I won’t ruin the ending for you. I recommend this film to families, especially children. It has a great story line, the characters are funny (especially Mushu) and the songs are good too my favourite songs are lets get down to business, this song has a steady beat and a good rhythm it’s the sort of song you can sing along to. My other favourite song is called Who Is That Girl I See, it is a lovely song it is the kind of song that gets you weepy.
The animation and graphics are amazing; Shan-yu’s hawk shows the film in Birdseye view. You can tell the characters have been really thought out in great detail. It is very colourful; the part of the film in the imperial city has great detail lots of colours, kites, Chinese dragons and fireworks.
Some parts in the film are humorous for example when Mulan was taking a bath in the river and Yao, Ling and Chien-po arrive, they don’t know that Mulan is a girl you see so Mushu has to bite Ling on the butt so she can escape! (lol)
I think the story line is exiting because it has lots of computerised effects and you don’t know what’s going to happen next.
Mushu has got to be my favourite character he uses the voice of Eddie Murphy. Eddie Murphy, I think creates the right attitude I think Mushu would be like if he were a person.

My mum bought it for me from Woolworth’s for 14.99. I think it is good for the money. It runs for about 84 minutes, which is about 1hr and 24 mins. I have enjoyed this film and I hope you will too. It is full of fun and laughter for the whole family.
