Apologies for the lack of opinions lately. I've been on holiday and had a spot of writers block. I'm not entirely happy about the new scheme for rewards, but I should still be writing again soon. :)

This is probably going to be a very biased opinion, as I am a HUGE fan of Disney movies, but I’m not lying when I say the film is practically flawless.
Set in ancient China, Mulan (Ming Na-Wen. Singing voice, Lea Salonga) is the story of a young woman who is somewhat different from the other girls in her village. Bold and forward, she is nothing like the decorous Geisha’s of her day.
On failing to impress the matchmaker, Mulan is determined to bring honour to her family. So when her ill and elderly Father is sent for to defend his country against the Huns, Mulan runs away to take his place, dressed as a man.
As she races away to join the troops, her ancestors awake. Cursing Mulan’s foolishness they send one of the family’s many guardians, a cute little dragon called Mushu (Eddy Murphy), to bring her home. Failing to do so, Mushu decides he must restore his own honour by staying to protect Mulan and help her pass as a man.
At the training camp, Mulan meets the hansom young Captain Shang (B. D. Wong. Singing voice, Donny Osmond), the main love-interest in the film, and three fellow soldiers, Ling, Yao and Ling-Po, who bring some light hearted humour into the story.
On saving Shang and the rest of their troop with her quick thinking and swift wit when they are out-numbered in battle, Mulan is injured and her secret is at last revealed.
Looks like all is lost! But of course everything turns out better than okay and there is a very happy ending.
The first thing I love about Mulan is its plot. Yes, it’s predictable and just tad unrealistic, but I think it’s fairly original compared to the usual Disney fairytale princess thing and I was so pleased to see the female lead saving the day for once!
Like all the Disney classics, the music is amazing; from the beautiful solo piece ‘Reflections’ to the groundbreaking ‘I’ll Make a Man out of You’, the cast is excellent and Eddy Murphy’s Mushu is just hilarious!
Dramatic, moving and superbly animated, Mulan could be the best, and most grown-up Disney movie yet!
