The story begins with preparations in order for Mulan and Shang to be wed. The two have a wedding party and their differences are soon clear:
Fa Mulan: [after being asked if their wedding is going to be big] Absolutely! Captain Li Shang: Oh ho no! Captain Li Shang: Blue! Fa Mulan: Pink! Captain Li Shang: Mild. Fa Mulan: Spicy! Captain Li Shang: Yes! Fa Mulan: No!
Mulan's mother and father soon realize this and decide to remind Mulan of the lesson of Yin and Yang - two very different people, but only by working together can they bring happiness.
Shortly after this Shang and Mulan are sent on a very important mission by the emperor of China. Their mission: to ensure the safety of the emperors three daughters - Mei, Su and Ting-Ting - to a distant country where they will marry the sons of this land in order to bring piece to both countries. Mulan, however, is opposed to arranged marriages and believes her duty is to her heart - not her country.
The three girls soon pick up on this way of life and begin to fall for Yao, Ling and Chien Po. This makes Shang very angry as he believes the princesses have a duty that they must carry out… at all costs.
Mushu is back!! And this time he is on a mission of his own - to ensure Mulan and Shang do NOT marry. Why? Because he will lose his pedestal. He does this by showing the couple just how different they are, with some very hilarious results.
Does Mushu succeed in his efforts?
Do the princesses follow a duty to their heart or their country?
*¤°`.¸¸(*) MUSIC (*)¸¸.´°¤*
The film - like the previous Mulan film has some great music in it!!
♫ Lesson Number One: is an upbeat track that brings the movie into the action straight away. It has good lyrics and emphasizes to the viewers the importance of opposites early on.
♫ Girl Worth Fighting For: was featured in the last film, although a much better version than this one. It has some very stupid lyrics and at times I thought 'It's as if the writers just though of some words that rhyme and worked the song around it.'
♫ Like Other Girls: is also another of my favorites and it is a very good track that fits in very well with the entire movie. Atomic Kitten also do their own version of this song as the credits roll up… both versions are equally as good.
I think we can all agree that the most memorable character from the first Mulan was Mushu the dragon played superbly by Eddie Murphy. Well, we got some bad news - he's not back. Although Mark Moseley really does do a very good job at Mushu he lacks that certain something that Eddie Murphy brought to the first film.
This film is very good for small children and parents alike. It is suitable for all audiences and I would definitely recommend it to others. Although, some fans of the original Mulan will possibly be disappointed others will find the more mature storyline a breath of fresh air
The animation isn't perfect and neither are the character performances but what this film lacks in some areas others make up.
A recommended buy!!!
