Now I bought this because it was 3 for £20 in HMV and I didn't know what to get as my third one! I'm really glad I picked this. I was a fan of films like Moulin Rouge and didn't know how something like this would compare. In truth, it was a stark contrast but in a good way.
Judi Dench plays Mrs Henderson, recently widowed and able to spend money as she pleases now. And, against the advice of the woman who used to be Mavis in Coronation Street, she decides to spend the money on a theatre, the Windmill which is falling into disrepair. She hires Bob Hoskins to be the manager and they set about thinking up a show. They start off with a continuous review show with the delectable (and sadly gay) Will Young as the star tern. However, when all the other theatres follow suit, they change to a show showing girls in the nude, a move which nearly closes them but they are fine as long as the girls don't move on stage, so they are almost like pieces of art. What follows is arguments and grievances between Bob and Judi all about the way the place should be run and in turn their underlying fondness for each other.
The story is made more realistic by the introduction of the War which threatens closure and draws all of the characters closer together. But it is the comedy and fantastic acting which make this a really good film. Bob Hoskins is a bit woodeny, but I guess thats what he does well eh? Will Young's part is small but he plays it extremely well and the supporting cast of very game girls willing to strip off for the movies really add to the comedy of the film, although close your eyes when Bob Hoskins gets naked as its not a pretty sight!!
If you want a lazy sunday afternoon watch, this is an incredibly fun and non-threatening film. I suppose its a bit of a dramatic chick movie but once you tell your boyfriend there is a lot of naked woman in it, its amazing how fast he'll join you on the sofa.
I would certainly recommend this film, happy viewing!

I see you've posted this as a DVD review, but you've not mentioned the DVD. Are there any extras? If so, what are they and are they any good? If you add to this, or if you change it to be posted as a "Film Only" review, which can be done by accessing "edit review" above the review and changing the drop down menu under the "Which format are you reviewing?" question at the bottom, please let me know and I'll re-rate.

Good start there. A little longer and in more depth would earn you higher marks though. Let me know if you update your review.
