This is a delightful DVD with a collection of some magical Mr Men and Little Miss stories. There are thirteen stories altogether, including ones about Mr Clever, Little Miss Chatterbox and Mr Dizzy. The animations are colourful and lively, with great fun and humour.
EPISODES
Normally, I would give an overview of what happpens in each episode- but as these episodes are quite short, I dont want to ruin the story by telling you too much! Instead i thought it would be helpful to tell you the title of each episode- this way you know which characters are included, then, if your child ha a favourite character, you will know if they are in this DVD.Episodes:
I bought my copy for £3.99, which is great value, especially when you consider that there are thirteen episodes.
AGE RANGE
This DVD is rated U (Universal). I would recommend it for children of all ages.
ROGER HARGREAVES
Charles Roger Hargreaves was a British author and illustrator of children's books- he is known worldwide for the Mr. Men and Little Miss series, intended for very young readers. Hargreaves is Britain's third best-selling author- he has sold more than 100 million books. When you think that you probably read many of his books when you were young and are now reading them to your children, you can see that the appeal has lasted a long time.
Hargreaves was born in West Yorkshire, in 1935. He started out in advertising, although his original ambition was to be a cartoonist. In 1971,he wrote the first Mr. Men book, Mr. Tickle- this is still a popular book today and one of my son's favouites. This was inspired by Hargreaves' son asked his father what a tickle looked like-Hargreaves drew a character with a round orange body and long, rubbery arms, which became Mr. Tickle.
He struggled to find a publisher, but once he did, the books became an real success. He sold over a million copies in the first few years. Then came along the BBC animated television series, narrated by Arthur Lowe.
In 1981, the Little Miss series of books came out. This too, was made into a television series in 1983, narrated by the popular John Alderton and his wife with Pauline Collins. Hargreaves wrote 46 Mr. Men books and 33 Little Miss books altogether.
Hargreaves died of a sudden stroke in 1988-one of his sons,Adam, continued writing and drawing the Mr. Men and Little Miss characters in new stories.
