The introduction of a cartoon Mr Bean intrigued me and so bought the series on DVD. I wondered whether it really was rowan attikinson doing the voice of Mr Bean, and of course 'teddy', as it really doesn't sound like him at all and it wouldnt be surprising as the odd grunt and whimper can be done by anyone.
The basic and gody colours are also a let down. They make Mr Bean look tacky and very childish despite being modern. However this defeats the object of the Beanmeister. He was supposed to be old fashioned and quirky, living in the ignorance of modern advances of technology and updated fashion trends. Saying this, the kids appear to love it. Why I ask it really is not funny, and he talks too much. The old mr bean got in trouble incidently, this cartoon version appears to go looking for it.
The DVD consists of one disc and features eight animated episodes each lasting abou 15 - 20 minutes in length, including: 'No Pets', 'Ray Of Sunshine', 'Birthday Bear', 'The Mole', 'Roadworks', 'The Sofa', 'Treasure' and 'Homeless'. In these episodes we see a cartoon version of the classic Mr Bean go about his daily chores, celebrate his teddy's birthday, get in trouble with the police and even manages to loose possesion of his home.
Overall I'm awarding a 3 star rating. This is beacause it's probably very well suited to it's target audience - this is, i'm assuming, 3-7 year olds as some of the comedy is very bland, slapstick or toilet humour. Good to give as a gift to small children but not suited for thoe of us who remember the classic Rowan Atkinson performances in the original (unanimated) sketches. And of course the Bean Movie which I absolutely love! To conclude I'd say they really shouldn't have bothered turning mr bean into a cartoon, however it does prove a point - kids'll watch anything these days. Thanks for reading anywho, take care & as always best wishes, mintz x x x
