This romantic musical has to be one of my favourite films because it is different. I love musicals with singing, dancing and with romance in the air and this film has it all!

Moulin Rouge is set in Paris in the 1900's where young Christian (Ewan McGregor) decides to become a writer in the most romantic city in the world, Paris. His father was completely against it but he decided he shall prove his father wrong. As he sits down by the window with his type writer looking at the outside view of Moulin Rouge, trying to think of something to write about, a man falls through his roof! A minute later, a little man and a woman come down to apologise and see if the man is okay. They are making a play and this man is the main character in it. What shall they do? In the end, Christian has to be in this play! He comes up with amazing ideas that the woman (the director) isn't happy with so she leaves.

One night, they decide to go to the Moulin Rouge to see some dancers and hear some music when falls in love with the main star of the show, Satine. But he has competition with the Duke over who gets her. Satine eventually falls in love with Christian but it's more complicated than that.

When watching this film, I felt like I was being pulled into it! The dancing is amazing and the outfits are brilliant! Nicole Kidman has a spectacular voice and so does Ewan McGregor. I cried so many times through this film and will definately watch it again and again!

The soundtrack is so wonderful and dancy. It's so hard to try and explain it because no matter how much I say, it is a hundred times better than it sounds. I don't actually have the soundtrack but I downloaded many of the songs onto my computer. I don't know all of the songs, but there is Come What May (harmonised love song with Nicole and Ewan), Diamonds are a girls best friend (originally a jazzy song by Marilyn Monroe), The show must go on (a very strong song if that makes sense! The lyrics have a very strong meaning and sung very powerfully), one day I'll fly away (a ballad with Nicole and Ewan) and one of my favourites, Tango (a suprisingly sexy song with amazing dancing in the film too!).

I borrowed the DVD (I have a DVD player on my computer so I'm not sure if it is different for normal televisions! Sorry!) off my friend and it has two discs. This is what it says:

BONUS FEATURES
DISC ONE
Production commentary with Baz Luhrman, Catherine Martin and Don Alphine.

Writers' commentary with Baz Luhrman and Craig Pearce

Behind the Red Velvet Curtain version:
Interactive feature that lets you glimpse a historical, technical and artistic view of Moulin Rouge!

DISC TWO
Uncut dance sequences: see the full extent of the choreography on your favourite dance numbers.

Multi-angles: select camera angles for Tango, the can can and Coup D' Etat.

Behind the scene featurettes, interviews and much, much more!

If you have ever seen Chicago, the singing and dancing is a bit like that, powerful! But Moulin Rouge is all about glamour, jewellery and the red curtains!

Very enjoyable film with very talented actors.

NICOLE KIDMAN
EWAN MCGREGOR
JIM BROADBENT
JOHN LEGUIZAMO
RICHARD ROXBURGH

Kylie Minogue plays the part of the green fairy for a few minutes but is quite funny and sings too!
