Ahhh... so your a virgin to the Moulin Rouge, well snuggle up with your sweet heart (as unimpressed as he may be) and force him to sit through this film while you tear up and he attempts to squirm away, yes the stereotypical male will not be impressed by this collaboration love story, musical... in fact there is likely no other combination he would be more scared of. Or at least that's my opinion as old fasioned as that may be.. let me know. Anyways we follow an aspiring writer Christian (Ewan McGregor) to Paris in the days of the Moulin Rouge... the children of the revolution. He heads into a new life and finds himself writing plays for the brothel turned stage production at the moulin rouge. He falls in love with the main woman, Satine, there played by the beautiful Nicole Kidman. The woman heads up to the wonderfully decorated elephant room, after an intense dance scene in which she confuses Christian for the rich duke whom she is supposed to seduce. However, despite her not wanting to fall in love and actually not being allowed to by her boss/pimp, she does. The two are forced to carry on there relationship in secret and you know how it goes from there... The main point that separates this movie from the rest is its soundtrack that you will likely be humming/singing for days. Popular songs are taken and twisted into love ballads that are memorable and different. The director did a wonderful job in creating a unique love story not in plot but in special effects, music, cinematography, constumes, and sets. All the scenes are brilliantly set up with bright colours, elaborate costumes... it almost makes you want to live the glamourous life of a prostitute... but not quite! anyways give it a try, its sappy but definately an enjoyable and memorable chick flick & the singing it great!
