Lady Marmalade - Lil Kim, Christina Aguilera, Mya, Pink After hearing this version of Lady Marmalade on The Box I went into my town centre and bought the single, and then promptly left somewhere in a shop and had to buy it again, something that I am sure that only I could do.
I got the single home, eager to listen to my new purchase, and was not disappointed in the slightest.
The actual song is lifted from Baz Luhrman's film Moulin Rouge (Red Windmill, I believe is this translation though my french is a little rusty) and is also featured on the actual Soundtrack CD that I decided not to buy.
Track 1 on the single is what I assume to be the album version, although it does not say it is on the single sleeve. This version is the one that I saw on the TV. I noticed that the radio edit of this single does not have Missy ‘Misdemeanor' Elliot on it, and the album version does, that is how I know that this is not the radio edit. I think that this version of Lady Marmalade is a vast improvement on the version released by All Saints, as it has more energy to it than All Saints did. All four of the artists singing on this track have excellent voices, which obviously is pivotal to the quality of this track. Had the track been performed by any other combination of artists, I do not feel that it would have been so well performed.
Lil' Kim brings attitude to the song with her half rapping, half singing part in the song. Mya brings the kind of sweet side to the track with her gentle vocals and long notes. Pink has a "Don't mess with me" sort of feel to her singing. There is a lot to be said for Christina Aguilera's input into the song. Her strong, smooth vocals add a great deal to the track, and it is a far cry from her previous releases, which seem to have come from a younger mentality than the enthusiasm with which she performs this song (you might have guessed that I think she's good in this song)
Track 2 and 3 are the Thunderpuss Radio Mix and Thunderpuss Club Mix respectively. The Thunderpuss radio edit is pretty much just the album version to a dance type backing and a faster tempo.
The Thunderpuss Club Mix is a very long track which bears similarity to the Thunderpuss Radio edit, except a lot longer and with a lot of repetition of the lines "Hey sister go sister soul sister flow sister".
Overall it is a totally fab single, well worth the money spent on buying it.

Good op but shouldn't it be under music rather than the film category?

Advantages: Great pop editing and effects. Jim Broadbent (ten times the actor of all the others)) Disadvantages: Pop songs don't work, original songs poor. Narrative very weak. Characterisation poor. (Toulouse Lautrec?????!!! Should this have been a cartoon?!)
