Advantages: Some nice fights, music Disadvantages: Awful acting, annoying characters, PG-13?!
The bad reputation surrounding live action video game adaptations is justly deserved. I tend to avoid investing my words in a genre that has received countless brown markings from failed projects; per se Street Fighter, starring the truly awful Jean Claude Van Damme, and the equally as bad Doom, starring ex-WWE wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
Having resisted seeing MortalKombat for fourteen years after its release, I decided it was time to give it a go. The reviews I had previously read were mixed: American critic Eugene Siskel, in particular, considered it the best video game adaptation he had seen at the time; Roger Ebert, however, said it looked "murky", and, on the whole, failed to impress beyond his incredibly low expectations.
So, how bad is MortalKombat? Bad... really bad. But so bad that it's good? Erm, not quite ...
Advantages: Animated Mortal Kombat that sticks to the storyline (somewhat) Disadvantages: Not enough fighting
This DVD contains four episodes from the series, Kombat Begins Again, The Swords of Ilkan, Familiar Red and Abandoned. Note that these episodes are not in the order that they were aired. Note that the second episode, Sting of the Scorpion, is not contained in either volume 1,2 or 3.
The quality of animation is decent for its time, and the storyline is quite interesting, for MK fans at least. Rayden is the Thunder God who has plenty to say about the efforts of the human warriors, but ofcourse never really does anything himself seeing that he is immortal. The rest of the MortalKombat cast all make an appearance over the 3 volumes, as the battle for the Earthrealm commences. The good guys here are Sub Zero, Nightwolf, Liu Kang, Rayden, Sonya, Jax, Kabal, Kitana. Over the course of their journey they meet up with old foes such as Kano ...
Advantages: kids like it Disadvantages: is nothing compared to the original
The new cartoon format of 'Mr Bean' is all in all a complete let down. I got very excited when I heard that a cartoon mr bean was coming out. I had expected it to be along the lines of the classic comedy sitcom sketches by Rowan Atkinson, but it's nothing like it one bit. The modern artwork tries to make Mr Bean look appealing to the younger generation and completely destroys his unique clumsy geek image.
The DVD consists of one disc and features eight animated episodes each lasting about 15 minutes including: 1. Camping (mr bean decides to go camping for a holiday treat, however as usual with mr bean, things go wrong. He makes a security guard angry, he tent colapses and ends up creating more trouble by trying to fix everything and geting even with the secuirty guard).
2. Chocks Away -in this episode Mr Bean takes to building ...
