It was as much a part of Christmas Day as the Queen's Speech and Turkey and Plum Pudding. ... more
The Morecambe and Wise Christmas Day Special was an event not to be missed - even the Queen as said to have delayed her official dinner to watch it.The legendary comedy duo's Christmas Specials began in 1969, but the phenomenon exploded in 1971 when the first, lavish, extended Christmas production was broadcast. Shirley Bassey sang in hobnail boots; Glenda Jackson was serenaded by an assortment of BBC Presenters and the Andre Previn sketch stole the show (I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order). From then on, every subsequent year demanded new stars and great sketches. Diana Rigg played Nell Gwynne, Elton John was sent the wrong way round Television Centre, Vanessa Redgrave ('She's tall enough to play in goal!) starred in a Latin-American extravaganza and a leggy Angela Rippon emerged from behind the news desk to perform a legendary dance routine. In their last year at the BBC, the show reached it's peak as a record 28 million people tuned in to see a chorus line of newsreaders acrobatically dance and sing 'There Ain't Nothing Like A Dame', Penelope Keith climb awkwardly from an unfinished stairway and an unexpected return for Elton John.

the same. Thankfully, this one is somewhat different. Yes, you have your director's commentary, but it also includes a featurette on them winning their Golden Globes, a making of the XmasSpecial documentary, similar to how series 1 and 2 had 'making of' segments, and full versions of "If You Don't Know Me By Now" and "Freelove Freeway" (from Series 1) to keep you fully amused.
To obtain yourself a copy, you can get the DVD of it from Amazon for £14.98, which is arguably a bit steep for what is primarily just two (extended) episodes of the programme. However, you can buy it "used & new" for just £6.89?much better!!
Of course, some people just don't 'get' the humour behind the Office - it's too dry, and even annoying in many places. Some people, myself included, think it's absolutely genius. That's the wonderful thing about comedy - it can ...
Advantages: Two hilarious entertainers Disadvantages: There are none.
down to the floor where her heel went into the top of Eric?s top hat. So then, Penelope Keith?s limping along with her hair in a mess and Eric?s wearing her shoe in the top of his hat. Fantastic!
People warmed to the catchphrases they brought into our lives ass well and weren?t there a lot? ?What do you think of it so far? RUBBISH!? was a popular one. ?Get the Tea Ern? ?There?s No answer to that!? and many more, and it takes wonderful entertainers to be able to make it so that we relate them with those phrases automatically.
For over two decades people watched their shows and went out of their way to watch them. People started to rate the quality of their Christmas by how good the Morecambe and WiseChristmas Show was. They made us laugh which is a gift.
Eric once commented that comedians were never knighted and it ...
It's been a while since I've reviewed anything even close to a TV comedy, let alone a DVD or CD - so here we go...ladies and gentlemen, the Extras ChristmasSpecial.
First shown on the BBC at Xmas 2007, it was the final episode in the Extras series - the second brainchild of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant after the phenomenally successful "The Office". On first impressions of the first series, it was good but not as good as it's predecessor, but the second series of Extras stepped up to the plate and was a fantastic piece of sitcom writing. So, at the public's request, here came the XmasSpecial to wrap up all the loose ends.
Set when Gervais' character; Andy Millman, has become a relative success due to his high rating sitcom "When The Whistle Blows", he is now looking to become a Hollywood star, partly due to the success ...
