As someone who was no where near being born when these films and the rest of the python stuff came out I was glad to get this and see some classic stuff.
Holy Grail and Life of Brian are possibly worth this box set alone, depending on the price you could get them seperately. They excellently poke ... ...jokes and there's stuff in there for everyone. I don't feel either of these films is dated at all, even so long after they were released although perhaps there is better comedy these days to compete with. Holy Grail and Life of Brian are possibly worth this box set alone, depending on the price you could get them seperately. They are both excellent and it is above me to be able to pick a better of the two, I think that would have to go down to personal taste. They excellently poke fun at lots of things as well as other general jokes and there's stuff in there for everyone. I don't feel either of these films is dated at all, even so long after they were released although perhaps there is better comedy these days to compete with. Holy Grail follows the quest to find the holy grail (as you may have guessed) whilst Life of Brian follows the story of Brian, from his birth to his death (no surprises there eh?). The stories (when you say them like that) don't really sound like much but its more about what the pythons do with this outline that is important and what they do is very good.
The other two films let the set down a bit (And Now for Something Completely Different and The Meaning of Life), its not to say they don't have their moments but they are not as complete overall. There are some well formulated jokes in there to be sure, some which I really enjoy but they are more just collections of sketches than actual films which is something that makes the other two films so strong. This is what drags the box down to a 4 star rating, you may get better overall value for money if you buy the good ones seperately.
To be honest I never really bother with extras when it comes to DVDs, I never seem to be able to find the time to watch them so I can't say much about them. They may have some good stuff on there, I imagine there are a few laughs and interest points at least but thats just my assumption.
Overall its rather up to you whether you want to go for it, you're going to get 2 good films and 2 not so good ones, if you feel thats worth the price then go for it, the two films you will get are very good.
Advantages: Laughter in a box! Disadvantages: Visiting the hospital after your sides have split with laughter!
Having purchased the Monty Python box set from Amazon I couldn't wait for the legends of British comedy to arrive at my door. Luckily this wasn't too much of a wait because as always the purchase to door delivery service offered by Amazon is always one of speed! Now I could review each film from start to finish in detail covering all the comedic genius of John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle etc... however this would be very unfair to the perspective ... ...a fantastic collection of films away from you. All I will say is the battle for the holy grail is a tough one, I now know the meaning of life, I without a doubt experienced something completely different and soon realised that he's not the messiah, oh no, he's a very naughty boy! This box set contains the genius that created a blueprint for many of the comedy shows we see today and will always remain intelligent, classic British comedy at its very ...

...a big fan of the Monty Python series, these movies are absolutely fantastic. What I love about each of these films are the way these guys don't hold back on their antics. Every time I watch these films it amazes me how cleverly Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin are able to quickly change characters throughout the films and still manage to keep audiences in stitches.
This DVD Includes:

Advantages: 3 Movies!!!! All Great! Disadvantages: Too Heavy
...witty, stupid, crazy comedy of monty python's brain.
Each movie revolves mainly around the same group of famous british actors and are now very well known to the public and to everyobody really.
There are extras in the movies as well which is very good, such as cuts, behind the scenes and more. The movie is also digitally enhanced abit so the movie is more bearable visually for people who cannot stand older films.
Very good film! Must get now! ...

Advantages: Funny Disadvantages: i wish the graphics were up to date
...are funny and full of Monty Python adventure goodness. graphics are are divine for the day in age it came to be, but that is not a bad thing. The actors are wonderful and the story plot will definitely keep you rolling on the floor laughing untill you cry. My personal favorite is Monty Python and the holy grail, the other movies in this box set are just as funny, but it all differs by your own personal preference. I love watching these movies over ...

Advantages: It will make you giggle Disadvantages: you will be quoting the movies for ages, annoying everyone
The Monty Python box set is a must have for all monty python fans and anyone else who likes to have a laugh. I think the best way to describe these films is extremely random and genius. If you love quoting movies then this box set is definately for you. You will be able to annoy everyone with humerous quotes and songs that they just won't get unless they've actually watched the films. I know I did. Infact I still do 'your mother was a hamster and ...

DVD Description
Contains the MONTY PYTHON films MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL (two disc special edition), LIFE OF BRIAN, THE MEANING OF LIFE (two disc special edition), AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, and MONTY PYTHON'S PERSONAL BEST DVD sampler. In MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL, the complete Python troupe is cast in this parody of the legend of the Holy Grail. The Knights of the Round Table battle dismembering foes and killer rabbits on their perilous quest. LIFE OF BRIAN is a daring satire about a blundering prophet in New Testament times, Brian Cohen, who is mistaken for the Messiah. In THE MEANING OF LIFE, the Pythons explain it all in this episodic, bawdy adventure as they satirise religion, birth control, British politics, Americans, hospitals and of course sex. Amongst the highlights are the 'Every Sperm Is Sacred' episode that starts off the film, and the grim reaper visiting a bourgeois dinner party where there are some fishy goings on, and the gross Mr Creosote. AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT revolves around a collection of sketches from the Python's successful TV series. Includes 'Self Defence Against Soft Fruit', 'Blackmail', 'Hell's Grannies', 'The Townswomen's Guild's Reconstruction Of Pearl Harbour' and more.
