out of nowhere, she's hit by a falling meteor! Amazingly, she survives the collision and proceeds to walk down the aisle looking every inch the glowing bride... glowing green, that is. Things only get stranger once inside the church, as Susan suddenly grows to a colossal 49 feet 11 inches tall. Because of her new stature, she's branded a 'monster' and carted off to a secret government facility for genetic anomalies. There, she meets fellow outcasts; a brilliant cockroach with a PhD, a bizarre ape-fish hybrid, a gelatinous and indestructible blob, and a 350 foot grub. When an alien robot with an appetite for destruction lands on Earth, a desperate President calls for the monsters to be released in the hope that they will defend the very people who imprisoned them. Of course, the monsters oblige as they are basically good, despite their outward appearance. In their clumsy effort to save mankind from the alien threat, they prove that they each have something valuable to offer and that together they can really make a difference. DreamWorks Animation and directors Conrad Vernon (SHREK 2) and Rob Letterman (SHARK TALE) have created a fun adventure packed full of B-movie references, eye-popping 3D visuals, and quirky-looking monsters kicking alien butt.
Advantages: good animation and storyline, some funny moments, family film Disadvantages: None

My boys have been nagging me to buy them this DVD but I was hoping that they would have forgotten about it on their holidays but no joy. On our shopping trip today they saw a massive display of the DVD so obviously I had to treat them to it!
Susan is woken at 5am by her mother and friends as it is her wedding day but things do not go to plan for her when she is outside the church and gets hit by a meteor and as she is standing at the alter she is glowing green and suddenly grows to a massive size. The army come and take her away to a secure place which no one knows about.
It is at this secret place that Susan meets her fellow monsters, B.O.B, Dr Cockroach and The Missing Link. She soon discovers that due to her size she is considered to be a monster herself and is destined to spend the rest of her life in this place. Things soon change for Sarah and the other monsters when an alien ship lands on Earth and the General who is in charge of the monsters talks to the president and suggests that the monsters are used to destroy this alien.
Will Sarah and her monster friends be able to destroy the alien and will she ever get her old life back or is she destined to be a monster forever?
Well I will admit that this film did look watch able from the trailer which I had seen but I would not have been my first choice. The storyline was good but very predictable which find with all children’s films. I though that the characters were all very good and despite being called monsters there was nothing at all scary about any of them. The one which was my favourite had to be B.O.B as he had no brain as at times did actually make me laugh with the daft things he did. I found the voices of each of the characters to be very fitting to the appearance. The once which stood out for me were Reece Witherspoon who voiced Susan and Hugh Laurie who voiced Dr Cockroach. The actors who voiced the animated characters were able to give them so much character and personality from just the vocals they did which did make the characters more believable and indeed likable.
The animation in the film was very good which s what I would expect from DreamWorks and I was impressed with the standard it was. There was a lot of detail in all of the shots and a lot of time and effort must have been given to creating such realistic places and scenery throughout. I also enjoyed how the characters were made to be very human like and all had their own individual characteristics.
The music throughout the film was great and quite varied. I found it was all suitable for the places in which it was used and did help add drama to certain parts of the film. The film was set in the present time and despite being animated it looked good and I liked the design of the alien ships and inside the space crafts. They all fitted the film very well.

We did not take the time to watch any of the bonus features so I ma unable to make comment on them.
The running time of this film is 90 minutes and I found this to be a good length. My eldest who is 7 managed to sit through the whole film and he did enjoy it but my 5 year old did keep getting up and wondering around and my 2 year old had no interest in it at all. The certificate is a PG as there is some mild threat and comic fight scenes and I have to say that I have no objection is letting any aged child sit and watch this film.
The DVD is available from Tesco at the moment for £8 if you spend £20 or more in store on shopping but if not then it is the full price of £12. I found this to be an OK price but I really don’t like paying such a high price tag for films and usually wait for them to be reduced but as this was for my boys then I had no choice.
Overall I am going to recommend this as a good family film which has some good funny moments for the children and a decent storyline which adults will also enjoy and in the words of my Eldest it was a ’cool film’!
I have to say I was a bit sceptical about watching this film. There's something about putting a monster in a children's film that seems wrong to me, but this was well received by the critics and this morning I sat down with my two year old to give it a go. Well, the first thing that jumped out at me about this film is the range of actors involved. From Seth Rogen to Keiffer Sutherland, and a whole ...

does not stop this from being one of the best family movies of the year, that can stand shoulder to shoulder with Pixar's masterly UP.
This film is fantastic treat, as both kids and adults will enjoy the jokes, and the film never fails to entertain.
MonstersVsAliens is bound to be one of the best family films this year.

Monsters vs Aliens is still unlikely to blow your mind, but it will make you bust a gut laughing, and that's certainly something worth celebrating in animation (Daily Express, 15/09/2009)
The voice cast has been well chosen, with everyone delivering their lines with just the right mix of satire and seriousness. It all makes for a horrifyingly humorous hour-and-a-half (Daily Mirror, 15/09/2009)
It resembles that holy grail of family entertainment, a film by rival animation studio Pixar – think MONSTERS, INC meets THE INCREDIBLES. Plus, it looks funny, and has an exciting set piece on the Golden Gate Bridge (Daily Telegraph, 15/09/2009)
SHREK aside, DreamWorks CG 'toons have been eclipsed by Pixar's efforts, but this can go antennae-to-tentacle with the best of any studio (Empire, 15/09/2009)
Kids will adore the flash 3D visuals, brilliant action sequences and ace sight gags. Mums, dads and others will relish the quickfire dialogue-some of the best we've heard for a while in any film-and the affectionate nods to sci-fi of times past (News Of The World, 15/09/2009)
With a sharply funny script, vivid characters and eye-popping imagery, this is a raucously enjoyable animated film (Shadows On The Wall, 15/09/2009)
The voice casting is superb, with Hugh Laurie and Seth Rogen the standouts along with Witherspoon. There's also plenty of amazing action. The epic battle over the Golden Gate bridge is as exciting as any top live-action movie (Sunday Mail, 15/09/2009)
Aficionados of 1950s monster movies should have a ball spotting all the references. All anyone else requires is a taste for good fun (The Independent, 15/09/2009)
Brilliantly funny! (The People, 14/09/2009)
Engagingly nerdy movie in-jokes are clearly a step in the right direction for DreamWorks (The Times, 15/09/2009)
A snappy script and some neat 3D make for an above-average romp with plenty of in-jokes for cineastes and fan-boys alike (Total Film, 15/09/2009)
