Monsters Inc is an animation brought to you by the studios of Pixar and Disney. Its a feature film about a monster world in which James P Sullivan (the big blue and purple one) and Mike (the one eyed green one) both live. They both work at Monsters Incorporated, a factory where monsters create energy that fuels the city buy collecting screams from children over in the human world. This is done by entering the children's bedrooms at night through the closet, scaring them, and storing the screams in gas canisters. These monsters may make their living scaring children, but they're not baddies in any way shape or form and this film is so unique in that although the monsters are scaring children, they're still the good guys. The monsters are in fact scared of the children, in that any human contact is seen as toxic so, although they are scaring them, they are also trying to desperatly avoid being touched by them too.

The movie lets us join in with J.P.Sullivan and his sidekick Mike as he competes for the spot of "Top Scarer" against the canniving bad boy Randall. The story leads us on an tale of disaster as a young child, "Boo" manages to escape into the Monster World and chaos ensues. The two monsters must return the girl to the human world or there'll be a price to pay. Both monsters soon discover, however that treacherously toxic children aren't actually as treacherously toxic as they first thought.

The story has an clever twist at the end concerning a new discovery about how Monsters Inc collect their energy, but i shant ruin it for you and will let you see it!

I enjoyed Pixar's "A Bugs Life" and was excited about Monsters Inc when it came out. I was not dissapointed and have now lost count of the number of times i have seen it and i still laugh everytime. There was speculation that, what with the collaboration with Disney, the movie was going to turn into an all singing, all dancing disney tale, but trust me, you couldn't be more wrong. There's more wit in this film than Snow White could ever handle, and you can rest assured that no monsters are going to suddenly burst into song on any given occasion. It's not like that. It's most definetly a film that adults can and WILL enjoy. Infact i'd say it was probably more of an adults film than a kids one to be honest, just because alot of the humour may pass over their heads, unless they're older ofcourse.

All the character voices are brilliant too, and so apt and well played. Billy Crystal does a great job as the hilarious one eyed monster Mike

Pixar's animation studios have really come out trumps this time too. A Bugs Life was great, but they really pulled out all the stops on Monsters Inc. The realism regarding Sulley's hair is quite amazing, in that each and every strand was animated as it's own entity, and when they move (when he walks etc) it's so realistic it's astounding. Keep an eye out for the scene near the beginning of the film, when Sulley wakes up on his first day. When he is lying in bed and snoring, his hairs move with his breaths and it's brilliant. Technology these days.

Monsters Inc was out well over a year ago, but is still available to buy on DVD and VHS and i strongly reccomend that you do, or atleast rent it, if you haven't already seen it. The DVD comes with lots of extra features including two short animations. One is about Mike, the character from the film, and the other is a totally seperate little film, with no words, just sound effects, about some birds on a telegraph wire. They're both quite amusing and worth watching.

Monster's Inc is the kind of film that you can watch many times and still laugh at it, so buying the DVD is worthwhile. It's a very refreshing change to alot of children's movies these days in that the storyline is so uniquely different to anything ever done before and for that i praise this Disney/Pixar offering.
