Review of Monster House DVD by ally2kc

Advantages: Phenomenal animation, fantastic deep story and good characters
Disadvantages: Not appropriate for younger kids

...job and directorial debut with Monster House under the watchful eye of none other than Executive Producer, Steven Spielberg. The film was critically acclaimed and on the back of it Kenan now finds himself in demand to work on projects with top names in the business, including Tom Hanks who Kenan is currently directing in The City of Ember due for release next October ***Characters/Voice-overs*** The characters in this film were without question ...
...with the storyline coming second, Monster House is all about the story which is a mix of so many different things. It is scary and sad and moving and sprinkled with a needed touch of humour. Much care has been taken to setting the scene of the story which is utterly fascinating and complex. The message of the film is delivered with sincerity and will leave many viewers unexpectedly reflective at the end. In my view the story is not one for small ... Read review

Watch out...or it will EAT you!!
Review of Monster House DVD by fashionista27

Advantages: It was a great story, the animations were spectacular
Disadvantages: Quite unrealistic, a house comeing alive!

...•°¤*(¯`° Plot °´¯)*¤°• Monster House is about an old man named Mr Nebbercracker, who is extremely overprotective if his house. There have been a series of mishappenings going on to do with that house, whenever anything touches the lawn, it is immediately claimed by the house and it is more than likely that you will never see it again. A boy named DJ who lives opposite the house, knows that something fishy is going on and he plans to get to the bottom ...
...Chowder. It is the day before Halloween and DJ's parents have gone away for the weekend, leaving him in the "capable" hands of Zee, who comes across firstly as being very polite and caring when actually she is quite the opposite. When Chowder comes to play basketball with DJ, his brand new ball accidently falls on old Nebbercracker's lawn and they are both too terrified to retrieve it. DJ finally plucks up the courage to go and get it after Chowders ... Read review

Bound to be a cult classic
Review of Monster House DVD by atytyut2434

Advantages: great story and idea
Disadvantages: possibly a little too short?

I watched both this & Cars in the same day. This is miles better with no competition at all. It might look more cartoony and animated than Cars but it's hand drawn innocent appearance has much more appeal than Cars' over drawn, over polished and frankly over thought illustration methods. This film uses a new technique which has only been used in The Polar Express, which is known as performance capture. This is an improvement on motion capture and ...
...future. This is a tale about the scary house that everyone has in their neighbourhood. Everyone has a house that they thought things about when they were kids, so this film will appeal to adults, kids and big kids all alike. I'm not going to reveal too many details of the plot but the lead boy DJ reminded me of Hogarth from The Iron Giant (they look so much alike). His friend Chowder looks excellent and is well played and their girl sidekick whose ... Read review

Review of Monster House DVD by  tigersgurl11

Advantages: Good quality
Disadvantages: None

...This film is about three kids who are sick and tired of being bossed around by their neighbour, the old, grumpy Nebbercracker. The three of them decide to investigate and find that the grass can wind itself up your legs, can react to physical contact and possesses all of the human characteristics that me and you do! Inside the house Nebbercracker's wife lies in concrete dead! The house leaves the area and runs after the three of them and no-one can stop it , until Nebbercracker comes to their aid. Will they be smushed or will the house obey it's husband? This animated cartoon will always make a good ghost story for halloween. You never know, that house behind you might begin to move. GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... Read review

Belive me the house is alive !!!!
Review of Monster House DVD by  blossom11

Advantages: It can be funny in various parts
Disadvantages: It is a little too childish for me now

...Monster house is about three children who have had just about enough of their neighbour the grumpy old Mr Nebbercracker. So they explore his house to find that it is alive!!! They try telling the police but no one belives them, so they take matters into their own hands and fight back! This was a fantastic film but definatly more for children than adults so I would recomend this film to children who are 5 and over.It was a great animated film and I loved the characters especialy Charles or 'Chowder' who is terrified of old Nebbercracker. These are the main characters and the people who play their voices: Mitchel Musso as D.J. Steve Buscami as Mr Nebbercracker Sam Lerner as Chowder Spencer Locke as Jenny It is not exactly scary for me but it may be for younger children. But I jumped out of my skin at some shocking scenes. So if you get... Read review

Review of Dylan Moran - Like, Totally... Dylan Moran Live DVD by  BlueMidget

Advantages: Amusing, some great observations
Disadvantages: A bit short, his other work's a bit funnier

...~~~ Dylan Moran ~~~ I first came across Dylan Moran in his role of Bernard Black in the TV series ‘Black Books’. Whilst I enjoyed his ‘performance’ as a grumpy, drunken bookstore owner, I mainly watched the show because of Bill Bailey and so never really thought much about following up his career. It wasn’t until I stayed over a friend’s of mine who showed me his first stand-up DVD, ‘Monster’ that I really began thinking about him as a comedian. Having watched ‘Monster’ at a friend’s house, (a promptly buying it myself at the first opportunity) I kept an eye out for anything else Dylan might release. It was with some interest then that when ‘Dylan Moran – Like, Totally…Live’ appeared in my Amazon suggestions that I thought it might be well worth checking out. I suspect that Dylan is one of those comedians relatively few actually... Read review

DVD Description

MONSTER HOUSE focuses on an anthropomorphic mansion, a haunted house with human characteristics that actively frightens neighbourhood folks as it attempts to reign over its inhabitants. One day, a trio of intrepid youngsters, sick of being terrorised, decide to fight back. They are cutely pubescent DJ (Mitchel Musso); his fumbling, chubby friend Chowder (Sam Lerner); and smart-as-a-whip tomboy Jenny (Spencer Locke), who immediately enchants the awkward boys. The local police are no help, so DJ, Chowder, and Jenny are left to their own clever devices, which result in a series of rollicking, hilarious, and sometimes scary adventures. A cast of colourful personalities surrounds the central characters, and they are voiced by luminaries who include Catherine O'Hara, Kevin James, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kathleen Turner, Steve Buscemi, and the brilliant Fred Willard. And teen hipsters will delight in hearing the droll voice of Jon Heder (the title character of cult hit NAPOLEON DYNAMITE) as a deadbeat pizza maker nicknamed Skull. First-time director Gil Kenan proves spirited and highly adept at mastering such a high-tech production, and followers of animation will want to pay attention to the use of new digital techniques that stray away from straightforward computer drawing. MONSTER HOUSE is executive produced by Robert Zemeckis, who helmed the innovative and sophisticated animated feature WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT? in 1988. He once again proves that family fare need not be alienating to older viewers, but can appeal to on every level from childhood and upward. MONSTER HOUSE is a feat of blockbusting filmmaking--a visually stunning, witty tale that is sure to stimulate children and their parents.
