of panel quiz games by being both very, very funny, and consistently keeping its standards high. The format certainly helps. Based on the principle of two teams going head to head in a quiz based on the weeks happenings,Mock The Weekthen promptly rips up the textbook by introducing all sorts of madness. Improvisation? Yup. A bit of role play? Yup. Lots of laughs? Absolutely. In short, take something likeHave I Got News For You, mix in some elements ofWhose Line Is It Anyway?and add in some incredibly funny panelists, and this gem of a show is the end result. What really makes it though is not just the format, but the panelists themselves. Hosted by one of the funniest men on the planet, Dara OBriain,Mock The Weekthen brings in the likes of Hugh Dennis, Russell Howard and the gut-wrenchingly funny Frankie Boyle. The mixture is perfect, and the show simply superb.Whats more, this surprisingly lengthy DVD also brings in lots of material that even hardened fans of the show wont have seen before. That surely makesMock the Week: Too Hot For TVone of the must-have comedy discs of the last few years. And given the consistently high quality of the show, be prepared for more releases in the future too. Bring them on --Simon Brew

It started life on BBC2 and was first aired in June 2005 and has grown in notoriety since then meaning it has been given better time slots as well as being shown on BBC1. The show is now in it’s 7th season. I’ve always enjoyed the BBC2 comedic style but Mock the Week is definitely my favourite show!
THE SHOW
Dara Ó Briain the presenter is judge, jury and executioner I.e. he decides who wins. There are 2 teams of 3 comedians all striving to make the most funny or outrageous jokes in order to get points for their team. There are 4 regular panellists and 2 guest comedians, more on this later. Each team have a leader who generally has the final say on answers given and who are also ultimately responsible for ensuring their team wins. The rivalry between the two teams adds to the comedy immensely! The show is somewhat structured though most of the testosterone fuelled panellists enjoy ‘besting’ each other so it’s not unusual for the panellists to go off on wild hilarious tangents.
ON THE PANEL
Dara Ó Briain - The Presenter An award winning Irish comedian and veteran of the show. He along with other members has been with the show from the very beginning and although he isn’t a panellist and cannot offer ridiculously funny answers to the proposed questions himself the panel regularly goad him and include him in their jokes.Regular panellists: Hugh Dennis - Team leader Also with the show from the beginning Hugh Dennis is a well-known comedian if not a household name with shows like My Hero, Outnumbered, New Tricks and Have I got news for you in his portfolio. He is at his funniest when impersonating people in the regular feature in the show ‘Between the lines’ where his impersonations of notorious political figures and members of the monarchy will actually leave you in stitches.
Frankie Boyle - Panellist The funniest man alive! Boyle never fails to entertain and more often than not comes out with the most outrageous ‘I don’t know if I can laugh at this’ jokes. He has appeared on numerous panel based shows e.g. Have I got news for you and 8 out of 10 cats and seems to be hot property at the mo appearing on a great number of shows.
Andy Parsons - Team leader Like many other comedians Parsons started his career doing stand-up and was the Time Out comedy award winner in 2002. On the show I’d probably say that Parsons brings the comedy with his bumbling, awkward persona.
Russell Howard - Panellist The second funniest panel member. Howard has also traversed the topical comedy panel scene with Would I Lie to You? and 8 out of 10 cats. As well as being funny looking (sorry) he is an exemplary off-the-cuff comedian running with any and every topic and creating whole scenarios that may make you go ‘what?!’ but inevitably laugh out loud!
Guest panellists have included Gina Yashere, Jo Brand, Michael McIntyre, Ed Byrne and David Mitchell to name a few
REGULAR FEATURES
Headliners - A photo is given with the first letter(s) of the headline and the panellists make suggestions for what the headline could be.
Spinning the news - A random news generator spins picking a random topic that a panel member must tackle.
If this is the answer what is the question? - The answer to a news story is given and the panel make amusing suggestions as to what the question may be.
Scenes we’d like to see - usually at the end of the show the panel suggest the most unlikely things you would hear from a well known public figure or a film etc
Between the lines - A clip is shown with no sound and a panel member impersonates the voice of a recognisable person suggesting what they might be saying.
All in all a great show, I try never to miss it and on the rare occasion that I do off to the iplayer I go. Great for distressing for me anyway and I’d recommend it to anyone who isn’t easily offended, has an interest in the news (obviously) and who likes to laugh out loud because it’s that funny. Currently showing on BBC2 at 9pm on Thursdays. If you miss it you can catch up at http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/
If you like the show you might want to get the Mock the Week - Too hot for TV (DVD) released in 2007. Price - Amazon (£4.15), Play (£4.99)

...week, and you’ve got yourself Mock The Week.
Shown on BBC Two, and religiously on Dave (would you expect anything else?!), it’s hosted by Dara Ó Briain – an irish comedian who has done several appearances on several other comedy panel shows such as Have I Got News For You and Never Mind The Buzzcocks. Regular panelists include Hugh Dennis, Andy Parsons, Russell Howard and Frankie Boyle…or that was until last week when Boyle declared he wished to ... ...century if you’ve never seen Mock The Week. Of course, if you’ve not seen Whose Line Is It Anyway then, well, watch more Dave! Oh, and in my ‘research’ (and it is research…) Mock The Week was created by the people who came up with Whose Line Is It Anyway…
Various other panelists have appeared on the show included Ed Byrne, David Mitchell, Gina Yashere, Jo Brand, John Oliver and Michael McIntyre, but the staple of Dennis, Parsons, Howard and Boyle ...

Advantages: humour for everyone; has me in stitches; great end to the week; fab rounds Disadvantages: some humour unappropriate for younger viewers or may offend
This is my favourite stand up comedy TV show that has me in stitches. I love programmes like this when it's obvious they haven't been rehearsed and it's completely natural comedy.
The show is hosted by Dara O'Brien; an Irish comedian whose just fab and bubbly. There are two panels of comedians, each side composed of 2 regulars and 1 comedian guest. The Comedians
On one side there is Frankie Boyle. Frankie is a Scottish Comedian with a very dark ... ...liners and seems to say what everyone is thinking in a very rude and daring manner. For example:
,'When I said I wasa positive person, I meant HIV'
'Dear points of view. Watching Queer eye for the straight guy made me think that if I made gay friends they'd give me fashion tips. Instead, they F**** me.'
He is joined by Hugh Dennis. Hugh has a dry clever humour and is one of those comedians who barely laughs after what he has said or merely smirks. ...

Advantages: always entertaining Disadvantages: you may cry laughing
Mock the Week is a consistently funny and entertaining show. It is a typical Panel Show, such as other shows you may have seen like Have I Got News For You, QI, Who's Line is it Anyway and Never Mind the Buzzcocks. If you have already enjoyed these shows then Mock the Week is definatly for you. You can catch it on BBC2 and repeats on Dave. The topics on the show are mainly focused around current political issues and stories in the media, as well ... ...to laught about it all! You can guarentee on this show some very inappropriate, controversial, yet hysterically funny jokes will be made. Generally _mocking_ the news of the week. I usually find myself thinking, many of the comments made are things we all want to say but keep to ourselves. Sometimes you have to sit back and laugh and things, taking everyday too seriously isn't healthy and this show is a perfect example of how we can take a more lighthearted ...

Advantages: Great amount of unseen footage for a very cheap price now! Disadvantages: Have no issues with it!
So your sat at home watching the hilarious tv show that is 'mock the week' and thinking that Frankie Boyles last joke was a bit rude for tv! well you would be wrong! Much worse (or funnier, however you class it) comes out of that show but is just not broadcast for everyone to see but now that problem has been resolved! A Dvd of all the bits they couldnt broadcast ready for our viewing pleasure :D
For those of you who don't know, mock the week is a weekly political comedy panel show even though you wouldn't notice the political side of things as much as you would of other shows in its field!
Im a huge fan of the show and have been since i watched my very first episode of it! its very easy to watch and will have you in stitches guaranteed!, week to week they have new contestants who are famous comedians to give the show a new ...
Advantages: Hilarious comedy, cheeky and well delivered comedy style, looks and sounds great Disadvantages: You go away wanting more
Ever heard a friend asking if you saw Mock the Week and what that bloke said?...no not Frankie Boyle. No not the bald one. No not the presenter. The other one. This is the man they were speaking about in all probability.
Russell Howard is a comedian who I first saw (as I am sure many people did on his appearances on Mock the Week) and after seeing his appearances on Mock the Week I liked his style of comedy and believed that his live show would be brilliant as he seems to be a comedian with a very quick thought process which can lead to some amazing audience interaction and so I decided I had to give his live stand up show a chance and came away with a feeling that the show had been brilliant but like I wanted so much more (at first I put this down as a bad thing but realised that this is what a top comedian would want you to go ...
Advantages: Hilarious Disadvantages: not enough "to hot for TV material" !
Mock the week 'Too hot for TV' contains all the best scenes from the 2007 series (series 5), whilst also including some of the other moments that couldn't be shown on the BBC or any other station because of taste/decency issues and sheer outrageousnous (In which most of these comments/observations are made by Frankie lol). With nearly 3 hours of coverage, this think is unmissable for any Mock the week fan.
For those unfamilliar with Mockweek, it is a British comedy panel show based on current affairs. The Show is hosted by Dara O'Brien with 2 panel teams which are made up of regulars Andy Parsons, Russell Howard, Frankie Boyle and Hugh Dennis. Two guests are then invited each week to make up the teams of three. Guests in the past have included Michael McIntyre, Ed Byrne, David Mitchell and Al Murray. ...
