After the complete flop of Mission Impossible 2, I was rather reluctant to go out to the cinema and watch what I thought would be another terrible film. However, I was proved wrong, so wrong, in fact, that I had to buy the 2 disc DVD as soon as it was released.
J.J. Abrams has made a successful entry into Hollywood movie directing by revitalising a series which a lot of people thought had failed miserably. He creates this film with the usual glossy cast, but this time, the star-studded credits list is accompanied by an engrossing, thrilling plot.
Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise, is on a mission to rescue a captured IMF agent from a renowned arms dealer, Owen Davian. During his mission, he finds that Davian's next target is Hunt's wife Julia. The mission now personal, Hunt embarks on a thrilling, explosive mission, including Shanghai, Rome and America, putting his life on the line to save his wife. Cruise, as usual, acts well as the main character, really playing the part of an undercover agent, but showing human emotions under pressure. Philip Seymour Hoffman, who plays Davian, the arms dealer, also adds to the fantastic acting - he shows ruthlessness as expected, but also a less controlled side to his character. Cruise's IMF team play their parts well, getting involved in the storyline, but not getting in the way of things, ratehr, helping them on.
The special effects in the movie are the only disadvantage to the film. Although they add the trill and fun element to the movie, they are extremely over the top, and are rather repetitive after a while.
The 2 Disc Collector's Edition includes many hours of features. On Disc One, it includes:
The Movie Commentary by J.J. Abrams and Tom Cruise Deleted Scenes The Making of the Movie
On Disc Two:
Inside the IMF Inside the Action Unit Visualising the Mission Mission: Metamorphosis Scoring the Mission Moviephone Unscripted: Cruise and Abrams Launching the Mission Theatrical Trailers Excellence in Film TV Spots Photo Gallery
The collector's edition is a valuable addition to any DVD Collection, however, unless you are a Tom Cruise fanatic or are extremely interested in interviews with the cast and behind-the-scenes documentaries, it is not really any better than the standard DVD.

I've given you a helpful as I tend to reserve "SH" ratings for reviews that break every rule in the book - and yours didn't for me. Your structure and style are really very good and the only thing your review is lacking is content. Take note of the comments below about the aspects readers would find helpful and have a go at editing this review. I'm sure you're perfectly capable or writing some very helpful reviews. Best wishes, Elle.
