J.J. Abrams, creator of small-screen hits ALIAS and LOST, makes his feature film debut with the third installment of this successful series based on the hit 1960s television show....
more...Secret Agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) has decided to take it easy and lead a somewhat normal life. He's even found his perfect woman, Julia (Michelle Monaghan), and is engaged. But when newbie agent Lindsey Farris (Keri Russell)--whom Hunt mentored--goes missing while on assignment, the reluctant agent finds himself back in business. Soon, with his old buddy Luther (Ving Rhames) in tow, along with team members Zhen (Maggie Q) and Declan (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), Hunt is traversing the globe on the trail of Farris's captor, Owen Davian (Philip Seymour Hoffman), an elusive international weapons dealer. The stakes increase when the villainous Davian gets a hold of Hunt's fiancee and uses her as a bargaining chip. A raucous combination of spectacular chases, explosions, amazing stunts, and elaborate schemes takes the Impossible Mission Force (IMF) team to Berlin, the Vatican, and Shanghai. With fascinating hi-tech tools these secret agents can impersonate virtually anyone, scale walls in an instant, infiltrate the tightest security system, and blow up the evidence when they're done. But facing their most formidable foe ever, Hunt and his fellow agents are fighting the clock to keep Julia alive and get Davian the mysterious weapon he is demanding. Cruise's personal involvement in the stunts lends a nice air of authenticity to Hunt, who also shows his emotional side in this outing as he juggles his secret life and his new love, as well as possible betrayal by someone inside the IMF. Laurence Fishburne also stars as IMF's Director Brassel, and Billy Crudup appears as his somewhat timid right-hand man, Musgrave.

Tom Cruises best movie...I am not so sure. It is probably the best of the 3 so far...but it was so hard to grade this. I wanted to give it 3 stars, or satisfactory, but that really doesnt do it justice, its better than that, but 4 stars??? Ok, the storyline is the best so far without a doubt. It really gallops along and is full (and I do mean full!) of twists and turns. Theres the obligatory spectacular stunts and pyrotecnics for this kind of film and the return of Ving Rhames. I dont know what it is about this actor in this movie, he hardly has more than 3 lines during it, but he always adds such sparkle to all of the Mission Impossible series.

On that note, Simon Pegg is in here! He plays a computer nerd at IMF, always a treat to have a Brit alongside the Hollywood greats.

The story revolves, loosely, around the disappearance of an agent Ethan Hunt has trained in his new role of spy teacher and her mission into Berlin. Shes taken hostage and Hunts team have to track her down and get her out. All very simple so far...it, invariably, goes all wrong and the story dips a little here as they fight it out at IMF HQ like bitter business rivals!

I am not going to give you the whole storyline, suffice to say, Ethan is in a quandry as his work at IMF spills over into his new lovelife and pending marriage (yep, you heard right!)

The locations are fantastic! I\'m not long back from a trip to Rome, so the views over the Vatican and surrounding areas were fab to see again. The scenes in Shanghai look a little contrived with the paper lanterns, tiny curved bridges and Ethan taller than everyone else (good place to visit for you then Tom!).

The reviewers on the DVD sleeve sum it up well, especially the Mail on Sunday with - A superb action movie...the best in the series - but Johnny Vaughan goes a little over the top with - Mission Incredible!

Picture quality is very high even on my huge TV. The sound and tunes are pretty weak however apart from the shots of gunfire and heat seeking missiles (very poorly aimed or of an inferior quality!).

Now, a really annoying feature of this DVD (well mine anyhow) is a preview of the World Trade Centre film at the very beginning. Arent these supposed to go on hired DVDs? I dont want them on my bought copy thank you. Stick them in the extras area if you want to do that. Ok, ok, you can bypass it and go straight to the root menu but little things like this make you realise that you are being advertised to. Dont do it!

Oh, yes, and how many times are we going to see Tom blown up by a missile and thrown against something? Yep, its in here too. This time an aircraft (or it is a drone?) fires a missile at a car hes trying to get a weapon from and he is slammed against another vehicle. Uumm....now thats a repeat!

Give it is dues though, this movie will have you sat through till the end, so that cant be a bad thing. But I want to see MI4, if Tom can get his acting career back online, because based on this one, theres still scope to inmprove it further and then you really would be banging out the 5 stars in my eyes at least.

Right, I got criticised for not adding what extra features are on the disc...so I have learnt my lesson and watched that stuff too (I am not normal!)....:::::

Deleted scenes (5 of) - dull, you can see why they were removed. But no commentary as to why they were removed, thats always interesting (sorta!).
Generation Cruise - an MTV tribute to the legend of Tom Cruise....uuuummmm, I will let you make your own minds up on that one!
Scene Seletion - is this really an extra? Shouldnt they all have this? Even the poundland movies you buy have this if nothing else.
Commentary - by Tom and J.J. Abrams, who I believe is the Director of the movie. Well I have to say I NEVER watch a movie with this on. It would drive me crackers and ruin the film. So no thanks Paramount.

So, I have had my moans (rightly in my opinion!), but this is a pick up and watch again film in my collection. Well worth the £5 or so you can pick it up for now. Enjoy.
