Advantages: Very Funny Disadvantages: Not in the same league as Blazing Saddles
...could have happily watched it without them without it affecting the picture overall.
Cary Elwes is a good RobinHood, but there's not much he's not good in really. The rest of the cast are solid enough and handle the comedy (which is a mixture of physical, sight gags and slapstick) well. There are several good cameos in this including Patrick Stewart as King Richard and Tracey Ullman as castle cook, and part time witch, Latrine.
All in all, this movie does not really compare to something like 'Blazing Saddles', or any of Mel Brooks' earlier work, but it is still entertaining and full of things to spot. It is definitely better than the later 'Dracula: Dead & Loving It', so not a total waste.
There are very few extras on the DVD, just a trailer and small 'making of' documentary, but it can be purchased from most retailers at the bargain...

Advantages: Great cast Disadvantages: can not fault
...RobinHood The Prince Of Thieves - PG
The exceptional cast consists of: Kevin Costner (Robin of Loxley), Alan Rickman (Sheriff of Nottingham), Christian Slater (RobinHoods brother), Morgan Freeman, Sean Connery (King Richard-only a brief appearance towards the end though), Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (Maid Marion).
I thoroughly enjoyed this film when I watched it first, and still love it when I watch it now. I must have seen the film at least 20 times now.
Review:
RobinHood in the film is portrayed as a rich person, as his father owns a castle and is kind of the king of Loxley. He has rich clothing and an expensive medallion around his neck, which is worth, and awful lot for anyone who gets it.
The film starts with RobinHood’s father writing a letter to his dear son ‘RobinHood’. The sheriff of Nottingham then attacks him...

...Yet another one of Mel Brooks classicly funny comedy movies. This time he tells his version of the story of RobinHood. It is really funny as Robin teams up with his merry men and newcomers Achoo and Blinkin.
This really is laugh a minute stuff, a hilarious movie.
My favourite scene has to be where the merry men all sing in the woods about the fact that they are men in tights. We are men, men in tights, manly men.
I would definitely recommend this film to people who like a comedy movie and just want to continue laughing throughout....
