responsible for apprehending would-be murderers before they can commit the deed. Given these parameters, it's not surprising that not a lot of characters die in this game. But there's still plenty of violence. Anderton himself is quite adept at pummelling other officers, guards, robots or anyone else who gets in his way. With a decent selection of kicks, punches, and combinations (you can purchase additional combos when you collect enough dollar signs), Anderton can beat his way through at least the beginning levels.Unfortunately you are unlikely to find much to enjoy inMinority Report, even if you liked the film. The elements that made the movie worthwhile--a compelling narrative wrapped up with a high-tech, futuristic bow--are glossed over or absent from the game. What's more, the gameplay is as redundant and simplistic as the graphics are uneven. Worse yet, the game does not allow you to save mid-level (some levels are long), and the instruction manual contains no information about how to play the game, forcing you to play through the training course. But despite thatMinority Reportdoes successfully represent parts of the movie, such as the concussion gun, the jet pack, and the spider bots. The first time you fire the concussion gun, for example, you'll be impressed with the way the space around Anderton ripples with the force of the weapon. Otherwise, the game levels are unimpressive and character animation is poor.Minority Reportis not great at recreating the movie, and is even less successful when it breaks with it. --Bill Hummel, Amazon.com

Dick began writing novels prolifically and his short story output lessened. The title story of this collection has been made into the Steven Spielberg-directed movie of the same name while "The Days of Perky Pat" inspired one of Dick's greatest works the novel The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch; The Penultimate Truth grew from "The Mold of Yancy". Philip K. Dick is shown at his incomparable prime in this fourth volume of the definitive collection of short fiction.

Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise, Philip Dick => Minority Report. This is very good team giving us a great movie. Having had a bad experience with ‘The Impostor’ which Philip dick wrote, I wasn’t very sure about this film before I started watching it.
The calendar states 2054 and in Washington suburbs there is an operation taking place by Pre-Crime Division. This was created after the discovery of a method where are future crimes are forecasted. With this method, ‘criminals’ are arrested before they commit the crime. The rates of success are 100%. And this is owed in 3 forecasters, two men and a woman. These ‘people’ (precogs)have visions; from their visions result two names, one is that of the person who is going to commit the crime and the other one of the victim. When this happens, the police officers working in this enterprise grab their guns and their technological advanced tools and run to stop the crime before it occurs and arrest the person responsible
All goes well until the head of police team, John Anderton (Tom Cruise), sees in the screen the murder that he will commit after 36 hours! The criminal’s name is his own and the victim is a person he doesn’t even know.
So the hunter becomes the hunted. He used to run to catch the perpetrators and now he has to run away from his own job. And as if this all wasn’t enough, the enterprise finds itself under the supervision of federal agent Detective Danny Witwer who will decide whether the enterprise will be nationalised or not. All the weapons available to John Anderton now are his feet and believe me he used them well! As stated in the trailer: “Everybody runs!”
The whole concept, taken from the brilliant short story of Philip Dick, is astonishing. The uniqueness of the movie lies in the innovation of the basic storyline. The story is enchanting the script very appreciable. Although it has with certain cliché weaknesses (that Spielberg should have noticed!) the movie is a fantastic action sci-fi one.
The best part about this movie is that is brings together two …well…scenario- philosophy-faculty schools. These are incorporated in order to final script of Minority Report. The first one is that of Alfred Hitchcock, who first taught the “everyone chases one innocent and the innocent struggles alone to find the truth and point to the person that is truly guilty”. The second faculty is that of Agatha Christy. She was the first to create such complicated stories with continuous inversions, until the ultimate scene that was always the most possible inversion of the plot.
Why am I saying this? Because those of you who are familiar with those film-story writing philosophies will automatically start predicting what will happen in the movie. All remained will admire the ideally slowly unwrapping brilliant plot and abundant suspense. And when the movie is finished, it will be hard to compare it with any other film of this particular type. I believe that Minority Report is a fantastic futuristic work that places the spectator in the direct process of reflection and enigma due to the exceptional pure sci-fi police plot.
One of the disadvantages of the movie (faults if you may) was the fact that Spielberg didn’t make what I believe would be a required changed to the script. Tom cruise’s persecutor, Collin Farrell somehow managed to be one step behind him, like a marvel! The order was a bit in cohesive and unreasonable when it came to Detective Danny Witwer and John Anderton…biggest and striking disadvantage for such production. Second disadvantage of the film was … yes you guess right … direction. Yes it was very good and maybe even ideal, but we are talking about Spielberg … I don’t know about you, but I expected more. Sometimes the film reminded of Jurassic Park and A.I. Surely from all directors, Spielberg could have done a better job to create something better than what he did and make the film more impressive.
However, despite Steven’s minor mistakes, he and his team thought if some certainly peculiar script discoveries. He created a futuristic world that didn’t seem like it was fake; this is how the world might look in the near future. This helps the spectator to follow the movie easier and also make it more realistic. If you wonder how 2054 would be, just imagine all those candles on your cake and watch Minority Report. Tracking-spiders, car factories that well… let’s say I want to be frozen now, woken up in 2050 and drive cars like that!
There are some comical scenes as well that weren’t expected but were mostly welcomed! Something you don’t really see coming in a film of this kind and with such suspense.
The uniqueness of the movie of course wouldn’t have been achieved without special effects and CGI Technology. The Oscar goes to those effects because they are amazing and …district! Nothing will impress you when it comes to optical effects only because they are quite realistic. That is supposed to be the whole point of effects anyway.
Tom Cruise gives what I think is the second best performance in his career after Magnolia. Collin Farrell is very good at his role as a federal agent and Max von Sydow is brilliant as always. Nevertheless, Samantha Morton steals the show, she plays Agatha (Christy? You’ll see what I mean…) the woman forecaster. Morton is exceptional in her role, absolutely touching and convincing! Even if the movie was a B one, that woman’s performance would have made it a great one.
Music in this film is owed to talented John Williams. In this case though the music is … well not heard as much because the spectator’s interest is always in the scenes. Nevertheless the music is good for this type of film, especially in the chase-action scenes.
It is a futuristic work, a prototype one that is differentiated because of the uniqueness from the others in its category. It is not the masterpiece that one would be expecting by hearing the names Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise, Collin Farrell and Max von Sydow but it will without fail entertain you to the maximum.
Therefore I advise you... run... Run to the nearest blockbusters and rent it … because you know what? Everybody runs!

Minority Report Review
Cruise and Spielberg. Those two names alone will make a movie buff’s heart skip a beat and stomach fill with butterflies when the word summer block buster is added to the sentence, and yet in 2002 when the duo released their predicted hit the box office did nothing but fizzle. Spielberg had just come off another huge disappointment with the title of AI, but was still reeling in the success of Saving Private Ryan from 1999. ... ...The musical score in Minority Reports, as most Spielberg movies, relies on brilliant classical orchestras, and even though the “old fashioned” music is not contemporary it compliments the futuristic context perfectly, creating the tense and superficial feeling the film longs for. The musical score is justified by the brilliant directing that you come to expect from the master of film, Steven Spielberg, who takes command of the flick. The great camera ...

It’s just a normal day at the office for John Anderton when out of the blue, the pre-cons have a vision about a murder of passion about to be committed somewhere in the Washington area. As these crimes are not pre-meditated, this leaves the Pre-Crime police force, and John himself, little time to sort through the images given to them from the pre-cog trio and get to the scene to stop the murder from happenening.
Thankfully, the experience of John ... ...identical row of houses, allows him to save the adulterous wife and her lover from a distraught man who has just found out about it. So, after a hard day at the office, John returns home. However it is very clear that he is a far from happy man, reliving past memories of his son and his wife through the 3D imaging system he has, and getting away from it all by illegally ‘doping’.
The next day, on arrival at the Pre Crime offices, John is greeted ...

...is good to see that Minority Report uses its setting to good effect but does not go overboard with it and manages to be a Crime/ Sci Fi movie rather than just a Sci Fi. Advantages: action blockbuster Disadvantages: time travel style paradox
...I was told a year ago that i would write this review so here goes -
Padded out from a Philip I. Dick short story, MinorityReport tells the story of the head of pre-cognitive crime division John Anderton who is accused of a crime he hasn't yet committed. Set in Washington in the year 2054, 3 genetically altered humans can see into the future and give the pre-crime police details of crimes that will soon be committed. If just one of the 'precogs' sees a different outcome it is filed as a 'minorityreport'.
But the time-travel style conundrum is : If someone is arrested before he commits a murder, can the person be accused of the murder, which, because they have been arrested already can never take place? The prisons are likely to fill up quickly with this style of justice and the system, which is trialling well in Washington is...

...The storyline is exceptionally original which does not conflict with any other movie that has been set in the future. Advantages: the storyline and issues, visuals Disadvantages: Cruise, lack of character depth
...MinorityReport, basically, is a futuristic film (based on a short story by Philip K. Dick) where criminals get caught before they commit the act ('pre-crime'). Tom Cruise plays an officer accused by such a method, who then has to prove his innocence, before the act is committed. What makes it an interesting and complex film is the blend of issues involving paranoia and personal choice (very reminiscent of the original author), as well as society and its morals. The idea that criminals can be accused before they commit the crime surely cancels out any notion that the person might change their minds about committing the crime at all and have some sort of effect over their destiny. This makes the theme and storyline an interesting one.
Visually the film is excellent - with very detailed, thought-out scenes of the future - all in...

DVD Description
The science-fiction thriller MINORITY REPORT, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Cruise, is based on a short story by renowned writer Philip K. Dick. In the year 2054, in Washington, D.C., murder has been eliminated thanks to Precrime, a program that uses the visions of three psychics, called Precogs (an abbreviation for precognitive thinkers), to arrest and imprison would-be murderers before they have a chance to kill. Tom Cruise plays John Anderton, a Precrime enforcer who believes in the system for his own personal reasons--years back his young son was abducted, and he has dealt with the loss by becoming a high-strung Precrime officer. The director of Precrime (Max von Sydow) is eager to take the program national, and feels threatened by an ambitious federal agent (Colin Farrell) who is bent on finding a flaw in the system. When Anderton finds himself accused of the future murder of a man he's never met, his faith in Precrime is instantly shaken. He goes on the run, and is trailed by the relentless Precrime police. In the tradition of BLADE RUNNER (also based on a Dick story), MINORITY REPORT is a dark, brooding vision of the future. Spielberg expertly mixes thrilling chase and suspense sequences (the best of which involves Anderton being pursued by eye-scanning mechanical spiders) and stunning special effects with a challenging look at society's willingness to sacrifice privacy and the notion of free will for convenience and security. MINORITY REPORT is a thought-provoking and exciting film that ranks with Spielberg's best.
