Mickey's Magical Christmas - Snowed In At The House Of Mouse (DVD)

Before Christmas, I bought the new Walt Disney DVD, 'Mickeys Magical Christmas, Snowed in at the House of Mouse' I did request the product to be added then, but unfortunately I have only recently received the Product Approval. A little late for Christmas but never mind! I was hoping to review the product so that you could go and buy it for your own children at Christmas. There is always next year!

The DVD cost £5.99 from Woolworths, which I thought was an absolute bargain. my two year old son loves Mickey Mouse so I decided to treat him! the DVD case is illustrated with Mickey Mouse and a dragon from Mulan. They are looking up at the window where Donald, Minnie, Ariel (from The Little Mermaid) and Timon and Pumbaa (from The Lion King) are gazing at the present Mickey has brought! Snow is on the ground, stars are in the sky! lovely! The reverse of the box shows Snow White, Mickey and Minnie with friends, decorating the christmas tree.

Mickeys Magical Christmas introduces the viewer to Mickey Mouse and the majority of Walt Disneys animated characters from over the years, as they share a heart warming christmas celebration and sing a special song, 'The best christmas of all' that captures the true spirit of what christmas is all about!!

When a huge snowstorm leaves everyone stranded at Mickeys Christmas Eve party at the 'House of Mouse', Mickey brings out the cookies and cocoa whilst Minnie puts on some old home movies. Coincidentally, they just happen to be Christmas home movies! The magical memories put everyone, except Donald Duck, in the Christmas mood. By the end of the DVD, Donald is willing to participate in th festivities and they all celebrate Christmas in true style! All o f the characters are sat around tables, as you would see in a proper celebrity gathering. All of the tables are full of favourite characters.

The film lasts for 59 minutes and is a Universal Certificate, suitable for all, although it does recommend that younger children may need supervision on a first viewing. There are a couple of dark scenes but they only last a couple of minutes! (Ghost of Christmas

The film is made up of 12 small features, such as Donald on Ice, Mickeys Wish. These are jsut cartoons which last a couple of minutes, as seen on television inbetween features at Christmas. Good Old fashioned Mickey Mouse!!But they also include old favourites such as The Nutcracker, which is beautifully told and with the use of the original music with a modern kick, becomes an animated delight. It is narrated by a voice that sounds like John Cleese, but it doesnt actually say it is! Following The Nutcracker is The Mouse King.

My favourite on the DVD and favourite Christmas Tale of all time is, A Christmas Carol. starring Uncle McDuck, star of the telvision cartoon, Duck Tales, as Scrooge. This story is the main feature of the DVD and is simply wonderful! Mickey Mouse stars as Bob Crochet. Characters from films such as Basil and The Great Mouse Detective, also star in this animated delight. Jimminy Cricket (from Pinochio) stars as The Ghost of Christmas past.

In between each small feature you are taken back into the hall where all the characters are sat around tables, where you can hear animated ad-lib conversation. Truelly Wonderful!

A particularly wonderful end to the film is a song sung by all the Disney characters. I think I saw pretty much all the Disney characters I have ever known, except those from the Jungle Book! They all join together to sing a song of love and friendship. My particular favourite bit of the song is sung by Eeyore from Winnie The Pooh;

'Im thankful for the laughter and joy,
and the high spirit
that fills my heart to over flowing'

Their is also bonus footage on the DVD which includes 'Sing along Songs'. There are two songs, Deck The Halls and Sleigh Ride. They say they are sing along and the words do come up on the screen in karaoke style. But to be honest, I couldnt keep up never mind a child!!!

SUbtitles are available in English, English for the Hearing Impaired, Norwegian and Danish. The format is Dolby Digital 5.1 (?)

This Disney picture is as beautifully animated as you would expect from Walt Disney. Although all of Walt Disneys charaters are shown, the actual main features of the DVD star only Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and the Ducks as main characters. It is suitable for all ages. My two year old sat glued from start to finish!!
