The first time i saw this guy was on Live at the Apollo and only one of my mates saw it. I was trying to find people who had seen this guy so i could share in the laughter and when i eventually did find one, we knew that this guy was going to be big.
We went ahead and booked tickets to see him in November 08, it was the same show as this but was a few days after this filming and he'd somehow broke his arm so did the whole show in a sling! From what he was saying, he did actually do it on stage trying to do a cartwheel or running from behind the curtain and slipped. Him telling us that was just as funny as his gags, which are not actually gags but more everyday stories that we all can relate to.
When i first saw Lee Evans live, he used a simple mix of real life every day events and being completly stupid, Michael McIntyre is quite similar to that but without the visual part of the stories and the sweating! His laugh is also infectious, he laughs at his own stories and you cant help but laugh along with him
The dvd itself is pretty basic, only his Live at the apollo performance as an extra. Theres a brief opening scene of him being posh and chauffered around but apart from that, thats it. To be honest though you dont need anymore than that, the event itself is outstanding. Very little audience participation which is his way of doing things, he has stories to tell, theyre funny, you laugh and then he goes. Simple but effective!
Some of my favourite stories include going into a buffet waiting to be seated then immediately getting up and going back the way you came in to get to the buffet! Me and my girlfriend had this whole scenario a few months back in an all inclusive resort and straight awat started cracking up!
Theres so many like this where if you were on your own, it would register but the actual events being bought to life by a genuinely funny guy make life a lot easier and enjoyable! His smile is infectious, his laugh makes you laugh and there is a connection which makes you warm to him.
You may have seen him make appearances on Mock The Week, 8 out of 10 cats, Big Fat Quiz of the Year and the Royal Variety Performance. If you havent your missing out. Awards include the Chortle Award for best headliner and this actual dvd is the fastest selling stand up by a debut comedian.
Michael McIntyre is the future. Live the dream!
