Me and the fella have a bit of a problem when it comes to films and DVDs. We like the same sorts of things, but we're never in the mood for the same genre at the same time. For example, I fancy a Friday night thriller with more twists and turns than the winter Olympics bobsleigh run and he's in the mood for a night of non-stop belly laughing. One night we couldn't agree so we bought two DVDs and tossed a coin when we got home. The fella won and apart from the gloating, I'm so glad he did!
Michael McIntyre is a very talented man. He shows this by being witty, extravagant, descriptive, comical, approachable and very, very entertaining. Within five minutes of the opening credits the fella was wheezing and I was crying; maybe this DVD should have a health warning? We were laughing not just at the brilliant delivery but with recognition at the situations Mr McIntyre descibes - he finds the funny side to the most bizarre of situations and brings the humour right to the audience. I love the way he doesn't go overboard with the 'language' - I'm no prude but I get put off by comedians that can't deliver a line without blue punctuation. The odd word gets used, but this is purely for comedic effect and works very well. In addition he's good at the physical comedy too - no sitting on a stool/chair/fence here - he bounces around the stage (doing all sorts of things) and that energy is very infectious. The DVD is a good length (about an hour and a half) and was filmed the Apollo Theatre in London. The live audience obviously had a great time which enourages the at-home audience to laugh even more. There are a couple of extras on the DVD including an excerpt from 'Live at the Apollo', if your sides can take a bit more.
I've also enjoyed seeing Michael McIntyre on TV game shows such as Mock The Week. If you like what you see on TV, you'll love the DVD!
PS: Specific Criteria not exactly to the point I'm afraid......
