Dave (hubby) and I love programmes like Mock the Week, QI, Live at the Apollo and Have I Got News For You so we have enjoyed watching the rise of the comedian Michael McIntyre. We both love his anecdotal style of humour.
A couple of months ago Dave had an operation on his ankle and had to spend some time confined to the house so I decided to treat him to the DVD Michael McIntyre Live & Laughing to help with his recovery – after all they do say that laughter is the best medicine!
Laughter is exactly what we got as well!
As I said earlier his humour is the sort based on stories rather than the telling of specific jokes. He just stands there and tells you about things that have happened to him – obviously embellishing the story for comedic effect!
He has the sort of voice that is easy to listen to and easy to understand. I say that because sometimes I find that if a comedian has a strong accent or they get really excited and begin to shout or talk quickly or heaven forbid a combination of all three I can’t make out what it is they are saying. Michael’s voice has an almost public school accent to it without it being too posh and affected if you know what I mean so it is really easy on the ear.
He describes the most ordinary things in such a way that you end up in fits of giggles saying ‘Oh yes I do that……’. The man drawer in particular is nothing short of hysterical. I am not about to repeat the details of any of the humour here and potentially spoil the DVD for those of you who haven’t watched it yet but suffice it to say it was worth every penny that I paid for it!
The DVD is rated a 15 certificate as it does have some sexual references and a bit of swearing but not too much. To be honest McIntyre doesn't need to swear to try and make his act funny – it is funny without him having to pander to those who enjoy swearing or crudity.
We were happily surprised when the Hammersmith Apollo performance finished but instead of it being the end of the DVD we found that the footage of his appearance on the BBC's live at the Apollo too was on next! The running time is 1 Hour 24 Minutes so we felt that we had got good value for money.

I paid £6.99 for this DVD from www.play.com and got some cashback by going via www.cashinco.co.uk so it really was well worth the money!
I would happily recommend it to anyone who wants a real good laugh!

When I first saw him on Live At The Apollo I was left wanted so much more, so I didn't hesitate to purchase this DvD as soon as it came out. ... ...The Performance The DVD is as simple as you could expect; aside from a short sketch at the beginning the main feature of the DVD is simply McIntyre performing basic stand-up at the Hammersmith Apollo. It's the same concept as Live At The Apollo, and whilst it may be without the special effects or events of some shows, it is still immensly watchable and enjoyable. ...events and being completly stupid, Michael McIntyre is quite similar to that but without the visual part of the stories and the sweating! His laugh is also infectious, he laughs at his own stories and you cant help but laugh along with him
The dvd itself is pretty basic, only his Live at the apollo performance as an extra. Theres a brief opening scene of him being posh and chauffered around but apart from that, thats it. To be honest though you ... ...cats, Big Fat Quiz of the Year and the Royal Variety Performance. If you havent your missing out. Awards include the Chortle Award for best headliner and this actual dvd is the fastest selling stand up by a debut comedian.

Funny no tears formula Review ofMichael McIntyre - Live And Laughing (DVD)by

I first saw Michael McIntyre on a variety performance when flicking channels and was to be honest not a fan but after seeing him on Mock the Week and feeling that he has developed his style of comedy I decided to give this dvd a shot and was not disappointed.
Michael McIntyre is an extremely intelligent comedian who always delivers his style of humour in a way which should make you feel like you are being spoken down to by him but it actually feels ... ...he is.
I love watching Michael work as he is not scared to laugh at his own jokes and I was very impressed by his audience interraction which I have seen a lack of with some comedians but he has worked hard on his set and is now certainly at the top of his game.
The dvd will deliver laughs and intelligent comedy and you will not walk away feeling like somebody has just stood swearing at you and insulting your inteligence but will infact walk away ...

...he did! Michael McIntyre is a very talented man. He shows this by being witty, extravagant, descriptive, comical, approachable and very, very entertaining. Within five minutes of the opening credits the fella was wheezing and I was crying; maybe this DVD should have a health warning? We were laughing not just at the brilliant delivery but with recognition at the situations Mr McIntyre descibes - he finds the funny side to the most bizarre of situations ... ...the Apollo', if your sides can take a bit more.
I've also enjoyed seeing Michael McIntyre on TV game shows such as Mock The Week. If you like what you see on TV, you'll love the DVD!
