The film is directed by Michael Mann, who produced the original TV shows and as such I think I was right to expect a little bit more of a nod to the shows. Direction was slick, cars and boats were fast but that was about as fun as it got. I am very fond of Jamie Foxx in a non homo erotic way his singing skills are second to none and his acting in "Jamie Foxx Show" was supreme so i expected to see better scripting for me.

The film jumps straight into the action as Crockett (Colin Farrell) and Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) are in a nightclub trying to make a bust when Crockett gets a call from one of their informants who has been working with the FBI, and has had his cover blown. Crockett and Tubbs then take over the drugs deal for the FBI and this leads to Crockett meeting and having relations with Columbian drug baron's mistress Isabella (Gong Li) and Tubbs' girlfriend being kidnapped by white supremacists groups. I found this part of the film all a bit confusing, and the film didn't really engage me. I don't know the reason for this, but it could be the intertwining scripts which proved to be their downfall.

The acting performances were disappointing due to the poor scripts; all the lead players have done so much better in other films. Foxx is capable of so much more than looking cool in shades. I Never rated him (Farrell) apart from in 'Phone Booth' and "In Bruges" and he didn't really do anything for me to change my opinion. The original character may not have been known for his charismatic prowess but this was a modernised version so it should have been so much better in terms of acting and scripting proved this by their being barely any dialogue at all.

Overall I was ashamed i had this film. Although all the sub plots tend to confuse people which is a negative. The plots helped sabotage the film in my opinion even though it was a good film to watch. The romance part was slightly existent. If your one for police type movies this is not for you

This is a film only review. It is a Certificate 15 for some scenes of sex and violence and drug references. However it is a very soft 15.
WATCH IT, But Be Prepared For Disappointment.

Left unrated on request of Ciao, but I see you've posted this as a DVD review, but you've not mentioned the DVD features. Are there any extras? If so, what are they and are they any good? If you add to this, or if you change it to be posted as a "Film Only" review, which can be done by accessing "edit review" above the review and changing the drop down menu under the "Which format are you reviewing?" question at the bottom, please let me know and I'll rate.
