I've very new to this site so please go easy on me! I've been uploading my reviews from Dooyoo to start off with as I've heard this is allowed, so sorry if lots of my reviews come out at once!

Miami Ink, if you haven't heard about it already, is a TV show about a tattoo parlour in Miami (if you hadn't already guessed!).
The series began in July 2005, introducing four eager tattooists, Ami James, Chris Nunez, Chris Garver and Darren Brass, as well as Ami's apprentice, Yoji Harada. Throughout the episodes new tattooists enter and go, the most famous probably being Kat Von D who turned the studio around with her beautiful portrait tattoos.
Each show lasts about an hour long, and during that time we see a variety of clients enter the studio to get their tattoos.
The guys who run/work in the studio are all fairly young, heavily tattooed and have been through different walks of life. Most of them have spent their lives tattooing, so working in the shop you can tell means a lot to them. Each artist has a different personality which contributes to the show always being different and never boring.

James does the voiceover for the show, including introducing each new day, and introducing each client who walks in. What makes the show really interesting is that they only show the clients who have a story behind each tattoo they're getting. For example, someone getting a massive ship on their side means for them that they're finally free of something that was tying them down. I remember one woman had recovered from cancer and wanted some faeries going through the different emotions she felt, as a way of never forgetting her experience but also letting go at the same time. Often people will want tattoos for their deceased loved-ones, often portraits, and Kat Von D generally does these spectacularly.
It is beautiful to hear each story behind the tattoo and knowing they really mean something. Quite often the clients do cry if it is something very sad they are getting their tattoo for, often making the show quite emotional!
It isn't all doom and gloom though, the tears are just showing the reality behind the show, as it is based on a real tattoo shop. We get to see the excitement at the beginning of series one when they are putting their shop together, getting the signs, Yoji (the Apprentice) cleaning everything up, etc. All four tattooists are really passionate about what they do which is nice to see, but they also know how to have fun. I remember one particular episode where Yoji hires out four awesome cars for his tattooing friends, and they each drive down to a club to party. There's a fair amount of partying going on in each series!
The show is great for aspiring tattooists or even someone who's after a tattoo as it shows loads of interesting designs and patterns, enough to give you some great ideas of your own.
The episodes don't show every single aspect of getting a tattoo done, as it wouldn't be entertainment watching someone sterilising equipment, and then showing the 10 hours of getting a single tattoo done! Instead, it is sharply edited to show just the interesting bits, certains parts of the tattoo being done, parts where the tattooist is chatting to the tattooee about why they're getting it done (cue more crying) and then the final outcome, which shows the excitement and disbelief of the client when they realise how good their tattoo is.
The tattooists are all brilliant artists, and each in their own way as they make it clear they specialise in certain things.
The shop is friendly and fun and is very interesting to watch. I'd say this is one of the only reality TV shows I like!
Since Miami Ink there have been a couple of spin offs, for example LA Ink and London Ink. I don't think either of them are as good as the original Miami version, but it is definitely interesting to see how the London one works - though it's nowhere near as polished or well-edited as Miami Ink is. Actually, the quality is quite poor and portrays the British tattooists as quite rude and the studio as quite dim and grimy! I'd like if they made it look as cool as Miami Ink because of the fact it's in London, so a place I can relate to!
Overall, a unique and exciting show for anyone to watch, whether you like tattoos or not!
