I bought this box set for £9.99 in W H Smith at the end of June 2006 (their online store lists it at £34.99) as a gift for my 'better half'. We often like to sit down at the end of the day & have a giggle over a silly film - and they don't come much sillier than this!
For those of you who haven't seen the films yet (which planet were you on?), the plot goes something like this ...
Men in Black 1: Streetwise, know-it-all (or so he thinks!) New York cop James Edwards (Will Smith) chases down a criminal, only to see him behave in a very peculiar way: turns out he's an alien!. Later, Edwards is contacted by the mysterious Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) who introduces him to the Men in Black: the secret government organistaion responsible for monitoring (and hiding) alien activity on earth. K invites Edwards to join, and, turning his back on everything he has ever thought 'normal', becomes Agent J. The two pair up, and together they go in search of an alien which is out to cause as much death & destruction as possible. I hope it won't give away too much to say that the Men in Black beat the alien and restore safety to the earth - you'll have to watch the film to find out how! Finally, Agent Kay decides he has had enough of aliens, and decides to return to 'normal' life, leaving Agent J with a new partner.
Men in Black 2: 5 years later, & Agent J is having trouble keeping a new partner - then a new alien threat rears its ugly head & K is brought back out of 'retirement'. Once again, they make an unbeatable team - the plot is largely the same as MiB1, but there are some new aliens & some sharp wisecracks to keep it moving along.
MiB1 runs at 98 minutes, 2 at 88 mins.
I enjoyed both films as they are very funny but there are some rather violent & gruesome scenes, especially in MiB1 - the 'alien' in this film is particularly creepy (Vincent D'Onofrio on top form). MiB2 has a few really tasteless moments. Personally I would rate them as at least 12 rather than PG, so definitely not for the tinies. (Ratings in other countries range from U (France) - to 13 (Argentina) but average out at about a 12.)
For me the violence takes the edge off the enjoyment, but I know a lot of people aren't bothered by it.
The extra features include commentaries, animation studies, scene 'deconstructions', extended & alternate scenes, music videos, trailers, mini documentaries, production notes, artwork, background information on both cast and characters, bloopers, and web links.
So, 2 good films & loads of extras - pretty good value at list price, excellent if you can get it for a tenner!!

a lot of fun, largely on the strength of Will Smith's engaging performance as the rookie partner of a secret agent (Tommy Lee Jones) assigned to keep tabs on Eart...
