When, James Edwards, (played by Will Smith), a cocky young New York police officer, becomes involved in some strange activities whilst investigating a crime he doesn't quite what is happening. Getting even more confused when Agent K, (played by Tommy Lee Jones), a man dressed entirely in Black, asks him many questions regarding some out of this world incidents, asking him to become a member of a special agency… But this is no normal agency, which Edwards soon discovers, this is a top secret Agency which is solely for the purpose of protecting the Earth from alien invasions…
With Agent K recruiting Edwards, know becoming Agent J, the pair soon have to find a missing galaxy, before a giant cockroach does, to stop the approaching UFO from planet Arquil from destroying the Earth…
So with the help of Doctor Laurel Weaver, (played by Linda Fiorentino), and a memory changing device called a neuralizers, Agents K and L have little time to save the World from annihilation…
** IN CONCLUSION **
A great combination of sci-fi, action and entertainment, together with some very well thought out special effects by the brilliant Rick Baker… (who also had a hand in other movies such as American Werewolf in London in 1981, Gremlins in 1990, the haunted mansion in 2003 and many others)… it is a bundle of visual effects, from frightening to funny, even frighteningly funny in parts and sometimes gooey…
There is some fine acting throughout, especially with Will Smith being his comical and quick witted self… his dry sense of humour and many hilarious facial expressions a complete joy to watch…and with his humorous arrogance and vanity, he has a lot to offer and offers the lot perfectly.
Combining him with the excellent Tommy Lee Jones, with his straight face and his seemingly total lack of emotion, was such a great idea… the pairs banter seeming to feed of each other, creating some brilliant scenes as the cool headed agent K with his new, and a bit nervous, partner agent J…
In all, it is a brilliant movie and is probably one is one of Smiths finest sci-fi/action/comedies and is well worth a viewing… even if you're not to keen on him. Tommy Lee is his usual brilliant self, coming across as the father figure of the duo and he seems to revel in the part…
Even the theme tune is a bit on the toe tapping side considering it is performed by Mr Smith himself…

...Rumour has it that the Men in Black do actually exist, but that in reality what they do is visit people who have reported sightings of UFOs and potential alien things, and "encourage" them to keep it to themselves. This could mean they are not such nice people, and may use threatening or even violent tactics to achieve their goals. Of course, whether or not this is true, I don't know. But this film has been inspired by those theories, to create something ... ..."Forget-me-nots" song, "Here come the Men in Black"? It certainly went down well at its time of release, even if it was not to be a long lasting song. The soundtrack is generally quite good and still sounds new, even after how many years? 12? I think this is meant to be a cool film, and one that people remember, and in that it has been a success.
Conclusion
Definitely worth a watch, especially if you're into either sci-fis, comedies, or both. Since ...

Advantages: Accessable by everyone Disadvantages: None
This film is great fun, and easy to watch, also, with it bein a PG, it can be viewed by all the family, as good old clean fun!
The plot is straight forward enough, and not too difficult to get your head round, basically James Edwards (played by will Smith) gets recruited from the NYPD for a trial with a 'secret government agency' (which protects the world from aliens) by agent K (played by Tommy Lee Jones). He succeeds, becoming known as J, and ... ...that aliensa re leaving earth in a rush, they find the reason why, a very deadly 'bug' has landed, which is bad news for everyone. What follows is the 'Men in Black finding why the bug is here, and typically, trying to save the world.
Although this film appears to follow all the hollywood plot outlines, it really doesnt matter, as this is just a light hearted bit of fun, which ends in a great film. Will Smith and Tommy Lee are both fantastic, and ...

Advantages: Stacks upon stacks of extra features. Disadvantages: Unecessary inclusion of 4:3 ratio version.
Now, MeninBlack was already a superb film. What has always been good about it is it's perfect suitability to just plonk yourself down and watch it on the spur of the moment.
With the incredible amount of extra features included on this DVD you will be plonking yourself down for a considerable time to come.
All of the features are perfectly matched to the style of the film. My particular favourites are the out-takes (an excellent one involving the out of control ball seen - without the ball) and the scene editing workshop. At least you can have a go at putting a film together.
My only criticism is that the whole DVD fills you with a feeling of greed and you can't help but want more. ...
Advantages: Funny film, great special effects, fabulous extra features Disadvantages: Run of the mill sequel, Average script, The product placement is a touch much.
I had eagerly awaited the 2 disk DVD release of MeninBlack 2 for the past two months, ever since I had heard of its imminent parole date. As a huge fan of the original I had naturally pre-ordered my own copy of part 2 and after viewing both disks, here is my summery:

MeninBlack 2 picks up 5 years after the first one ended, agent Jay (Will Smith – MeninBlack, Independence day, Ali) is having a few minor problems finding a partner fit to replace agent Kay (Tommy Lee Jones – MeninBlack, Volcano, The fugitive) who was deneuralyzed (memory erased) and given a new life as a postal worker at the end of the first film.
When a strange and attractive female alien lands on earth, agent Jay is forced to reneuralyze Agent Kay to tackle the problem.

DVD Description
In the 1950s a super-secret government agency was formed to monitor and police the activities of extraterrestrial aliens on the planet Earth. Some 40 years later a founding father of the agency, Agent Kay (Tommy Lee Jones), finds himself with a new smart-mouthed partner fresh from the NYPD who is soon dubbed Agent Jay (Will Smith). Their first mission is to save the Earth from destruction by a giant insectlike alien (Vincent D'Onfrio) that, incidentally, drives an exterminator's truck. Armed with their matching Ray-Bans, skinny ties, and space-age weapons that Jay barely understands he calls the Neuralyzer the 'flashy thing' the new duo begin another average day of fighting intergalactic terrorists. An amazingly hip and terribly clever movie that riffs on everything from E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL to CASABLANCA, this Barry Sonnenfeld film is based on the equally savvy comic book by Lowell Cunningham.
