Meet The Spartans is bad, but I have to say not as bad as Epic or Date movie, it's still pretty shocking though and neither muppets Jason Friedberg or Aaron Seltzer have learned their lessons from the past turning out some of the worst ratings in American comedy history. Meet The Spartans is bad, but I have to say not as bad as Epic or Date movie, it's still pretty shocking though and neither muppets Jason Friedberg or Aaron Seltzer have learned their lessons from the past turning out some of the worst ratings in American comedy history. Saddest part is that the general public while absolutely hate this sort of dire drivel keep splashing out their cash in the hope that the next one of these dogs abortions turn out to be the next Airplane or Naked Gun. Sadly of course unless the movie has the name Zucker involved, you're never going to get a good spoof movie, instead you'll get pieces of vile filth like this aimed at brain dead morons.
Previous Friedberg/Seltzer offerings were dire from the offset, Meet The Spartans has a couple of vaguely amusing moments, that being said the crew filming the movie obviously realised that these unusual funny moments were a rariety; and as a result over exploited them turning what might have been a 30 second joke, into a laborious five to seven minute scene. A prime example being the pit of death scene in which lead Sean Maguire throws someone in the pit, this ten gets laboured with a variety of other plunges in the pit including Britney, Ryan Seacrest, and the crew of American Idol; all of course played by a variety of naff has been actors that nobody has ever heard of, and with the good grace of God nobody will ever see again.
Meet The Spartans is a basic rip off of Frank Miller's 300, with old Eastenders star Sean Maguire (long suffering boyfriend in the show of Mandy) taking the leading role. While the movie takes shots at a dozen other movies and TV shows including Transformers, Deal Or No Deal, Doctor Who (surprisingly an episode not yet screened), America's Top Model, Gladiator and American Idol. But this movies biggest continual knock is at sexuality with Maguire's Spartans portrayed as gay or bisexual men. While for two or three seconds this might be quite amusing to some moron, it becomes repetitive and tired 70 odd minutes later when they are recycling the jokes from earlier in the movie.
To add to the issues there are a variety of factors that outside the US people won't find funny, why not? Because we are yet to see the shows, movies or not privy to the elements of mediasurrounding some of the characters. Although the issues we are all aware of the Britney, Lindsay Lohan, and Paris Hilton flashing images; are exploited repeatedly as if it might perhaps be funny.
I found myself smile (inside) at two points of the movie, namely Maguire as Leonidas vicious attacks on his young child, and a moment where Britney sings to one of her kids. These two points raise Meet The Spartans above Epic & Date Movie, though the bar is not being raised much, perhaps by a millimetre.
There is some really bad dubbing in the movie, especially on Maguire who cannot make wookie noises, wookie being the race of a Star Wars character; and cannot pull off another accent. Sadly it seems our two director/writer muppets don't feel that matching the words with the lips matter, or maybe they thought this was being funny? But I guess coming from a pair whose sense of humour is so lowdown the scale its very much a case of who knows.
There is lots of gross stuff here, defecating on people's faces, throwing up in people's faces, and popping boils in people's faces, can you see a pattern forming here? And this other than the flashing, and the gay reference, is the repetitive dirge we are forced to endure time and time again through the movie.
In a bizarre and somewhat baffling turn of events, there is a lot of action that occurs after the credits start to roll at the end, and we are talking about 10 minutes of hysterical gags (I am kidding). Why I say baffling is because they occur 6 minutes after the screen turns to black, can you honestly think cinema audiences would be sitting around for this long after the credits roll? Maybe if the film had been good like Napoleon Dynamite, but for something this bad I'm sure that the crowds will be stampeding from the auditorium.
A prime example of how bad this movie is is shown from the cast, virtual unknown Sean Maguire is joined by Hercules star Kevin Sorbo, Carmen Electra, and Borat's Ken Davitan, other than this you're talking a cast of unknowns and failed rappers whose failing movie careers have driven them to this.
Even though my viewing of this movie cost me nothing, a big mistake in my book the people sending out the screener disc knowing exactly what I thought of the previous two offerings; I still felt like I had been ripped off, you can't give back time after all.
If you're still curious to see this, then shame on you; you can't say you weren't warned. Meet The Spartans is clogging up Cinema space in the UK now.

We certainly did not waste any more time on watching these as we were very disappointed with the film. The running time of the film is 82 minutes but I found that the main part of the film only ran for 66 minutes but we did find that after the credits had finished there were some more scenes which were just added on and had no relevance or ... ...they had finished. The certificate for this film is 15 as there is some moderate comic violence, bad language and sex references, I do agree with this rating. We paid around the £5 mark for our DVD from Amazon and I am so glad we did not pay full price as I would not have been very happy!
I do not recommend this film as it certainly isn’t the Hysterical and Outrageous film which it is said to be on the DVD case but if you fancy watching something ...

I firstly went to watch this at the cinema, it wasn't the initial idea to watch this, we were meant to watch something completely different but it was sold out I do believe so my cousins boyfriend said this was supposed to be good, so we watched this instead. I then later found out when it was going to be released as a DVD and had to get it. As I'd knew that my mom would love this! And I was right.
The directors of this film are Jason Friedberg ... ...for Scary Movie, and now have gone on to writing films that take the Mickey out of other films. All their films they have made I really want to watch, which is kind of weird due to the fact that "Meet The Spartans" and "Disaster Movie" Were rated the worst 2 films of 2008 by "The Times". So I would say I would really want to watch all the rest of the films they have made.
Most of the cast are used in the other films that Jason & Aaron has directed ...

Advantages: Kevin Sorbo Disadvantages: Too many spoofs that International viewers wont get
This was always going to be bad, it was just a matter of how bad. Mainly its a spoof of "300" with other spoofs of figures from popular culture thrown in, its very much like Airplane or Scary Movie only not as funny and containing too many references to people or things that audiences outside of America just wont get because they wont have heard of them. The movie jumps the shark pretty early on (actually in less than 3 minutes) by showing adult ... ...real movie it was a very young man who did that. The awful Shrek & Exorcist parodies were dire and the film had barely started too! I assume the dancing penguin was a "Happy Feet" parody? (Having never seen it). There's also the HUGE goof where the penguin shits in Leonidas' face and in the next scene he's totally clean. Now, what was the point of the Britney Spears scene? It didn't fit into the movie at all, they totally had to shoehorn that scene ...

Advantages: none at all after watching it all it will do is make you dumber Disadvantages: bad acting, terrible story, everything is bad
Meet the Spartans looks good from the trailer but yeah that sells it for you. I went to see this movie with friends I paid £5.20 and I can tell you not one bit did I enjoy the movie. I seen this back when it was screening at the cinema's. So here I will tell you what I though of this piece of trash of a movie. The acting is not that good you have Carmen Electra and to me she cannot act she is boring all she is in this movie for is eye candy. The ... ...their jokes are better. Meet The Spartans follows 300 thrown in with a bunch of jokes which don't work such as gay jokes these are just over the top and I for one did not feel comfortable in the cinema watching it (Not that I have a problem with gay people I don't). Then they come up with some of the oldest jokes possible cause they had a fat guy in the movie they come up with fat guy jokes. The scenes last to long such as the break dancing scene ...
