Advantages: Genuinely Funny Moments. Disadvantages: The Ex-Boyfriend.
...into the sunset. Meet the Parents has Stiller as Greg Focker (nah didn't think it was a funny name either) and his girlfriend Pam Byrnes visiting her parents for the weekend. Greg plans to use the occasion to ask Pam’s father Jack (Robert De Niro) for his blessing to marry Pam. The weekend gets off to a bad start when Greg’s bags are mislaid, which means he must borrow clothes for various members of the Byrnes’ household. The weekend’s ... ...performance in 'Midnight Run'. In Meet the Parents he plays the hard man and big softie at heart very well. There is a warmth to his character that is very endearing and once someone enters his 'circle of trust' he is a different man. Meet the Parents has a very simple plot and you know from the outset what you're going to get. It has a different take on the mother-in-law from hell in that the father is the difficult one. A lot of the actors play ...

...of a bad selection was Meet the Parents, so I thought that I would share my pains, sorry, thoughts with you. The first thing to say is sort of a disclaimer in defence of the film and to balance slightly the review that will follow, as Im sure you have worked out by now that it wasn't my cup of tea at all, did the title above give you that impression perhaps. Humour doesn't often travel across the Atlantic very successfully. Sure some stateside productions ... ...storm in "dear old blighty" and similarly Monty Python and Benny Hill for example have been well received in the "colonies" but by and large the humours of Britain and the United States remain fairly exclusive to each other. I accept that that is a big generalisation and also that this review will be fairly biased (as I am English) but I will try to be as fair as I can.
The basic premise is this, Gaylord "Greg" Focker (a name which in itself says ...

Advantages: Entertaining in the main Disadvantages: Farcical and annoying
I met my boyfriend’s parents for the first time a couple of weeks ago they were only here for about 10 minutes and yet still they managed to ask me nasty questions like “Isn’t it much better living in Wales than England?” after I had squirmed out of this saying it is nice to live by the sea, he asked “and don’t you wish you could be Welsh?” a great question to someone you know is English!!!! Meeting a serious ... ...and this takes the worst possible events and putting them all into a film. A weekend with the parents filled completely of disaster and nightmare material/
So my boyfriend went off on one of his late night walks and came back with this DVD and I had seen clips from it as trailers and I already knew parts of it would annoy me, I would never have chosen this myself, but since it were there I thought I’d watch it…
As a DVD the film had ...

...when you are going to meet the parents of your partner but he handles the situation well. You probably won't guess part of this ending because it isn't that obvious. This is a brilliant comedy a different storyline for a change and you just have to feel sorry for Greg. When you think something has gone wrong it could never be as bad as some things in this film. He has to stay for a weekend also not even just an afternoon. I think a funny part in ... ...and then he starts to argue with the air hostess, what a great arguement. As if Greg isn't scared enough he gets told about secret cameras in the house where he is being watched and then he has to take a lie detector with Jack asking him questions, could anybody be more nervous? Another very embarassing thing is when he ruins the grandmother's ashes I will not spoil it and tell you how because to me this was the funniest thing that happened although ...

Advantages: Some great laughs Disadvantages: Not to everyones taste
There was a lot of hype before the release of this film, and a lot of it was based around the fact it was the same director as "Austin Powers", Jay Roach. In the same position, I would want to link myself to a huge film like that, but I think some people were put off as there were not Austin Powers fans, and what a treat they missed, and especially as Mike Myers was the real power behind those films, I think Jay Roach is taking credit for a work ... ...himself directing another comedian, Ben Stiller, and out of that partnership came this gem of a film. Stiller plays Greg Focker, a male nurse, who is ready and waiting to propose to his girlfriend Pam Byrne (Teri Polo), however by a stroke of luck, Pam's sister becomes engaged and Greg discovers that any man wanting to marry Pam, must approach her father and *beg* for permission first. This can range from uncomfortable to torturous depending on the ...

Plot: MEET THE PARENTS stars Ben Stiller as the unfortunately named Greg Focker, a neurotic nurse intent on marrying his girlfriend, Pam (Teri Polo). But when the couple visits Pam's family home for her sister's wedding, he must first win the approval of her father, Jack (Robert De Niro), a protective ex-CIA agent. Before long, the awkward Greg and the suspicious Jack go head-to-head, resulting in hilarious scenes that feature a lie detector test, a suburban car chase, a toilet-trained cat, and a mean game of water volleyball. As the misunderstandings and mistakes reach an almost nightmarish peak, it seems as though Greg may never win over Pam's unflinching guardian. Featuring the inspired pairing of Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller (and an excellent appearance by Owen Wilson), director Jay Roach's clever comedy exemplifies every man's worst fears about courtship. When things for Stiller's character get bad, they just continue to get worse, culminating in a ridiculously funny airport scene. In the tradition of ANNIE HALL and FLIRTING WITH DISASTER, MEET THE PARENTS is an intelligent yet slapstick comedy about the eccentricities of the American family.
