***Why I watched Mean Girls****
Honestly, there was nothing on tv one Sunday afternoon and I found the film on Film 4 so I gave it try. I was a bit behind the times because the film was first released in 2004.
I proud to say I now own it on DVD and can watch it whenever I want to!
***The cast***
Lindsey Lohan as Kady Heron (Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, Herbie Fully Loaded) Rachel McAdams as Regina George (The Notebook, Wedding Crashers) Lacey Chabert as Gretchen Wieners (Party of Five, Black Christmas) Amanda Seyfried as Karen Smith (Mamma Mia, Jennifer's Body) Tina Fey as Ms. Norbury (Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock)
***The plot***
Mean girls is an American teen comedy set in a high schools where the school is divided into several visibly different cliques ranging from the geeks, aisans, band club etc. The clique that rules the school is known as the 'plastics' headed by Regina George with her band of followers Gretchen Wieners and Karen Smith.
These girls are the queen bees that's everyone wants to be, they have the best of everything including clothes, make up, cars, houses and boyfriends.
The story starts with the arrival of home schooled Kady Heron who was raised in the African bush by her zoologist parents.
Kady soon makes friends with 'social misfits' Janice and Damian who take her under their wing and introduce her to how the school is actually run from the view of an outsider!.
Within her first week Regina also takes a liking to Kady and invites her to join her group which is something no other girls has ever been asked to do. However with this she is given a list of rules she must follow if she wants to sit with the queen bees.
Janice and Damien are so amused by this as Regina and Janice used to be best friends years ago until they have a major fall out.
Kady naively falls for Regina's ex-boyfriend and is excited when she agrees to set them up, however Regina proves she is queen bee by making her move on the ex she dumped in front of Kady!
Encouraged by Janice and Ian, Kady pretends to be a loyal friend to the girls in the attempt to take down Regina and ruin 'the plastics'
***My opinion***
Im 31 years old and I absolutely love this film.
'The plastics' are crude, bitchy and they rule the school but they look good doing it. These are the type of girls any outsider may hate but would secretly want to be.
The characters are realistic, likable and the young actors have done a fantastic job.
This is a Lindsey Lohan back when she made good films and Rachel McAdams shows she is such a diverse actress in this role. In fact she really suprised me in this film.
The supporting actors are also fantastic, this is one film you will not forget. I love watching this film when I need a good pick me up. There is plenty of comedy, a good soundtrack and deep down an underlying story about friendship and bullying.
Even my fella finds this film funny ... but won't openly admit it!
***Summary*** This film will bring a smile to your face. Im sure lots of people can relate to this film whichever clique your were in.
Definitely a must see film!
