I had some free preview tickets for this film. It’s not the sort of film I would pay to see. I wasn’t expecting much but I was pleasantly suppressed.
It's based on a baest selling book by Rosalind Wiseman - Queen Bees & Wanabes: helping your daughter survive cliques, gossip, boyfriends & other realities of adolescence. The adaptation was done by Tina Fey (Saturday night live)
The plot
It’s the classic tale of the new girl trying to fit in to a cliquey American high school. This ones twist is that the 15 year old Cady Heron it not just from out of town but out of africa. She was home schooled while traveling with her zoologist parents in africa.
She makes friends with two of the "out crowd" Damian and Janis. Then the popular girls “the Plastics” let her join their group she is hesitant, afraid of loosing her other friends. But Janis wants her to pretend to like them to learn their secrets & plot their downfall. Regina the leader, Gretchen and Karen transform her into another one of them.
It all turns nasty when Cady falls for a boy, Aaron who used to go out with Regina. There is much plotting & counter plotting & Cady starts changing into a “Mean girl” herself.
There are several good adult characters. Mrs George Regina's mom - who's tring to regain her lost youth through the girls. Ms Norbury - a strong female character (Codys recently divorced maths teacher) Cody's dad - even funnier than in Scrubs
Sure it’s predictable but there were quite a few laughs. Several involved a big yellow bus. There are some great one liners, Cody's dad has several . My boyfriend hasn’t laughed so much since Bill & Ted It really lifted my sprits; I had had a very bad day but came out smiling. You might want to wait for the DVD though.
The cast
Cady Heron – Lindsay Lohan (Freaky Friday, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, The Parent Trap) Regina George – Rachel McAdams (The hot chick) Gretchen Wieners – Lacey Chabert (Penny Robinson in Lost in Space) Karen Smith - Amanda Seyfried Aaron Samuels - Jonathan Bennett Daiman – Daniel Franzese Janis Ian – Lizzy Caplan (Orange County, Smallville) Amy Chip Heron – Neil Flynn (the janitor from Scrubs) Mrs George - Amy Poehler Ms Norbury - Tina Fey Rated PG-13 for some very mild sexual content, language and partying. 97 min

I haven't seen this film but I thought "The Plastics" was a great name for that group of girls! Leila :)

Ha! I love these 'High School' comedies, Rachel McAdams is 28 in October - no really! Anyway the review's brief, but I'd imagine it would give someone a fair idea of whether they'd enjoy the film or not. Just to let you know in your cast list you've put Lindsay Heron instead of Lohan Zx

Advantages: Extremely funny, very true to life and featuring a great cast Disadvantages: Makes you realise how mean us girls can really be! (not me obv...)
