In the Farrelly Brothers' ME, MYSELF & IRENE, Jim Carrey plays Charlie Baileygates, a Rhode Island State Trooper who develops a split personality disorder after his wife leaves him...
more...for an African-American midget genius. Due to years of denial and repression while raising triplet sons left behind by his wife and her lover, Charlie finally gets fed up with people taking advantage of his meek nature and snaps, taking on a lewd, aggressive second personality named Hank. Soon afterwards, Charlie is assigned by the police department to protect a woman named Irene (Renee Zellweger), who's being followed by some shady characters that want her dead. As the pair attempt to outwit their pursuers, the kind-hearted Charlie begins to fall for Irene, while battling his sleazy alter ego, Hank.
Back in full comedy mode after his more dramatic roles in THE TRUMAN SHOW and MAN ON THE MOON, Carrey once again displays his outlandish brand of physical humor. As with any Farrelly Brothers film, there are plenty of grossly funny yet good-natured moments. (In fact, Charlie's loving relationship with his three brilliant half-African-American sons is one of the film's best and funniest subplots.) Above all, it is the way that Carrey juggles the extreme personalities of Charlie and Hank--basically waging war against himself--that proves why he is one of Hollywood's best comedic actors.

The Farrelly Brothers have established themselves as the kings of the gross out comedy which peaked with Theres Something About Mary. I actually found Kingpin amusin as well but I'm not a fan of Dumb and Dumber and this is the film where Carrey is re-united with his directors.

Me Myself & Irene is a film made for those people who say "wow did you see the cars in Gone in 60 seconds-they were really cool!". I would go on and explain the plot to this film but sadly there isn't one. Carrey plays Charlie, a nice cop who has a split personality brought on by being left by his truelove and hampered with 3 black sons who are not his blood although he loves them. He has to take a wanted Irene (renne zellwegger) across country to another place of custody. Don't ask me why she's wanted because you never know. She has some corrupt cops chasing her for no explained reason. Along the way Charlies other personality Hank comes out and general gross out comedy ensues. Sadly the film isn't that funny apart from a few great Carrey moments when his face is badly beaten up. The best moments come from the three sons who were rasied on Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy so naturally have a bit of a swearing problem.

The dvd itself is not a bad effort. The film is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen. The colours are very solid and there's no real problems at all. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix goes the way of most comedy mixes and is very subdued with most sound coming from the front speakers.

Once again the Farrelly Brothers return with an audio commentary which is only marginly better than their previous efforts. They talk a bit about the making of the film but mainly they just point out friends as usual.

The Foo Fighters 'Breakout' music video is also here and it's in the great 1950's throwback style that their videos always take.

A production featurette runs very briefly and just promotes the film, it's a real fluff piece. Much better are the behind the scenes vignettes that feaure some great footage of scenes being filmed.

Next are 10 deleted scenes that are mildy entertaining and expland some of the scenes already in the film. You actually get to see where they would have come in the final cut as well.

Finally you have the usual trailers, TV spots and stills. Look hard ans you'll also find an alternate menu and some out-takes that surprisingly aren't that funny.

If you like dumbass gross out comedy movies then this is your thing but personally this is just one step too far.
