comedy-it's difficult to know whether to take things seriously or just have a bit of fun. This is particularly tricky when half of that soundtrack is also meant as a tribute album of sorts. Such is the case with the soundtrack to Me, Myself and Irene. Of the 15 tracks on offer here, eight are cover versions of classic Steely Dan songs, performed by a slew of American alternative rock bands, including Wilco, Smash Mouth and the Brian Setzer Orchestra. Because it's Steely Dan, the band who attempted to bring art to AOR, it would be easy to dismiss this soundtrack as another example of irony gone too far. Yet it's salvaged by the supreme talents of bands like Ben Folds Five (who do an excellent version of "Barrytown") and Ivy, the side project of Fountains of Wayne's Adam Schlesinger. The Walter Becker/Donald Fagen songs are handled with the utmost respect, and, for the most part, show up the newer material on offer from Third Eye Blind, The Offspring, Foo Fighters and Hootie & The Blowfish. --Robert Burrow

I have talked about mental health issues before when reviewing films, as some of you will know. I feel that such problems should be taken seriously. Whatever the cause, they can isolate people, they can make life very difficult & they affect a huge number of people across the globe. It can be very hard to accept you have a problem, come to terms with it, learn to cope & ever completely recover. Somehow, some people do recover. In fact, for Charlie, ... ...& save the pretty blonde girl from trouble.
This is a film that takes a serious problem & takes the p*ss out of it in a way that most of us would never get away with perhaps because it is not really laughing at the person, but the circumstance. It really works, because actually, we see how much good there is in a person in spite of whatever else might be going on. It's not a thought-provoking, deep, meaningful film that will help you to reconsider ...

Advantages: Zellwenger is excellent... Disadvantages: ... the script is not
...a porn star. Lol).
Me, Myself, and irene is written and directed by the creators of There's Something About Mary, but unfortunately that's where the similarity ends. it's the story of Charlie, a lonely Long Island cop who suffers from schizophrenia and turns into a nutcase called Hank every so often. When Charlie is forced to hide Irene (Renee Zellwenger) from some nasty crims, he leaves his non-schizophrenia pills in a hotel room and becomes something ... ...nonsensical chase across America which really has little plot to it - indeed, the ending is very poor.
That said, I don't want to sound too critical, becuse there are some typically wonderful Carrey moments. For ten minutes towards the end of the film Hank and Charlie fight one another once and for all, and Carrey improvises this brilliantly - the part where he throws himself through a glass window is the best moment of the film. Similarly, Zellwenger ...

Advantages: Funny in places, starring Jim Carrey (and Renee Zellweger) Disadvantages: Not everyone's 'cup of tea'
Yes! That’s right! I’m here writing an opinion about a film that hasn’t been shown on TV yet (not to my knowledge anyway)! * This review will give away much of the plot and the end of the film so please do not read if you do not want to know this information. Do not read the bits in between the = lines. * ~ Starring ~ Jim Carrey (as Chalie/Hank), Renee Zellweger (as Irene), Anthony Anderson (as Jamaal), Jerod Mixon (as Shonte), ... ...being Charlie’s ‘sons’) Cast: Directors: Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly. Producer: Bradley Thomas Info: Rating: 15 (contains some strong language, violence and sexual references!) Running time: 116 minutes ~ Synopsis ~ Charlie (Jim Carrey) plays the role of a naïve police officer. He is the laughingstock of the town. Nobody has any respect for him (despite the fact that he walks around ...

One night on from writing about Jim Carrey's online presence, and it's time to do the same for one of the grating man's movies. This time Carrey plays a manic loner with a problem who comes through in the end (how unusual!) Starring alongside Renee Zellweger, Carrey plays a schizophrenic police officer whose darker side comes to the fore when he journeys across the States with Zellweger in tow but without his handy little pills available to him. ... ...he undergoes a nervous breakdown and suddenly all his inbuilt aggression and Hank (the bad cop) comes evilly to the fore, doing all the nasty and reprehensible things that Charlie can only dream of. Carrey was born (apparently) to play roles like this, with just the right amount of crazed rabid whacko periods to keep his wilder self satisfied, but it's actually the underrated Zellweger who gets most of the credits here. She was incredibly good in ...

Advantages: Very funny, Jim Carey is excellent Disadvantages: Could offend a lot of people
Who else would incorporate a dead cow, a very angry midget, plenty of "gross-out" humour and a loveable cast but the Farley brothers. When this was released many people panned it say "It's racist, sexist, homophobic and any other word ending in -ist or -phobic. I couldn't really see what they were talking about though when I saw it. The story concerns a man called Charlie ( Jim Carey ). He's charming, witty, strong. in love and soon to be wed. Something ... ...vertically challenged limo driver with a very bad temper he gets beaten up while his wife goes to the aide of the driver not her husband. 9 months later in a hospital delivery ward it appears (quite obviously) that Charlie is not the father of the three triplets born there. From here on, his wife leaves him but rather than get angry or sad Charlie just bottles it all up inside and becomes a push over. 18 years later he is a member of the Rhode Island ...

DVD Description
In the Farrelly Brothers' ME, MYSELF & IRENE, Jim Carrey plays Charlie Baileygates, a Rhode Island State Trooper who develops a split personality disorder after his wife leaves him for an African-American midget genius. Due to years of denial and repression while raising triplet sons left behind by his wife and her lover, Charlie finally gets fed up with people taking advantage of his meek nature and snaps, taking on a lewd, aggressive second personality named Hank. Soon afterwards, Charlie is assigned by the police department to protect a woman named Irene (Renee Zellweger), who's being followed by some shady characters that want her dead. As the pair attempt to outwit their pursuers, the kind-hearted Charlie begins to fall for Irene, while battling his sleazy alter ego, Hank. Back in full comedy mode after his more dramatic roles in THE TRUMAN SHOW and MAN ON THE MOON, Carrey once again displays his outlandish brand of physical humor. As with any Farrelly Brothers film, there are plenty of grossly funny yet good-natured moments. (In fact, Charlie's loving relationship with his three brilliant half-African-American sons is one of the film's best and funniest subplots.) Above all, it is the way that Carrey juggles the extreme personalities of Charlie and Hank--basically waging war against himself--that proves why he is one of Hollywood's best comedic actors.
